Change of Venue

Ashley, on January 27, 2020 at 20:04 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4
Hello everyone!!!

So I'm in a not of a pickle. We booked our venue back in March but on the weekend we just bought our dream home!!! (Yay!!!) It's a beautiful home on lots of land so we now want to have our wedding at the house. So far all we've paid for is the deposit. I realllyyy don't want to lose that money 😭😭. I guess my question is has anyone had any luck getting a deposit back? Or do any of you have any experience with being able to "sell" your venue to another bride?

Sadly I believe the others are right - for sure ask your venue first to see if they would be willing to refund you, but otherwise start posting away on FB and all the wedding groups about the venue and date to see if somebody would be able to take it off your hands. Also ask if they would let you move the date - then if you find somebody who wants that venue in general you could move it to the date they want and have them take it over?

Rayanne’s right. Unless the venue has to cancel on you, you likely won’t get your deposit back. You’ll probably have to sell your date.

Congratulations on the new home. I have not heard of anyone getting their deposit back I would be more worried about if you cancel under a year if you would have to pay more. I know with my venue once I get to one year I have to pay 50% of the wedding cost if I cancel and if it is less than 6 months before i have to pay 75%. Hopefully you can sell your date to another bride. Good luck
