Aylssa, on August 10, 2017 at 21:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5
Hi all,So within planning our wedding the one thing that keeps coming back to stress me out is cattering and how expensive it can be.
Does anyone have any other ideas on serving food that wont completly break the bank..

We were debating doing it ourselves as well but we got off lucky and we have a caterer for 15.00 per plate including tea, coffee and dessert. We've been dealing with this caterer for other occasions as my FH and I use to run our local hall. Others is almost 40.00 from what I've seen. Another woman I work with had someone cater her sons wedding for 8.00 a plate. Research is key. Don't give up hope. You can do it!!

I'm doing it myself since catering businesses usually charge by the plate. it gets expensive. So we opted for easy to make but really good dishes that can be done in advance in bulk.

Some options for less expensive catering can be to have a restaurant cater, go with a cheaper food option like barbecue or pasta, have an early reception so you can serve brunch or a light-ish lunch instead of a full plated dinner with several courses, or have your reception at a non-meal time so you can serve something small and simple, such as just light appetizers and cake.

I hired a girl guide unit to do mine. Other options are church groups or service groups.

The least expensive way to feed people is to make it yourself. You never mentioned how many guests you'll be having. Would your family and friends chip in to do a pot luck wedding? Some couples just have their ceremony and a very simple reception with a champagne toast and then wedding cake with coffee and tea. Another option is an afternoon tea with little sandwiches, a pickle tray, scones, and other finger foods.
