Caterer or one place gives all

Phania, on February 1, 2018 at 18:08 Posted in Wedding reception 0 7
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if it's better to rent a location and bring your own caterer or find a place that offers it all. We're getting married in Montreal in the fall and we want to save as much as possible.
I found places charging 66$ the plate and adding 30% on top of that and that's not even open bar on top of a location fee. I've found other places that charge no location fee nut it's around 80$. And considering that my first location choice the rental is $5 000, wouldn't doing that and getting a caterer beneficial ?
Any input?

    Hi!
I'm starting to plan my wedding in Montreal too. I think you can save some costs by renting the hall alone (specially if it belongs to the city/park) and then have an outside caterer buffet style. The price you save in money you have to pay in time an effort to coordinate multiple players but at least you stick to the budget!

La toundra is a venue we looked at, it's beautiful! The nice thing with them is youre not stuck with a venue's open bar prices. You bring your own caterer and stock your own bar. Stocking your own bar isn't expensive, keep it simple. Catering is more but you can also do buffet style which we had prices for around $45-65. Unfortunately you have to accept that 15% tip will be added and that our tax is outrageous. You won't be able to get away from it no matter where you book.

I have been looking everywhere. I'd love parc jean drapeau on circuit Gilles Villeneuve, la toundra. If not the golf courses in Ddo and ile bizard. A little bit on the south shore.
I am tired to be frank and I have just started. We found this place that had great price but gratuity was 15% and taxes 15% as well. It's ridiculous!

La toundra in Montréal has a full kitchen available. And they offer tables and chairs. Everything else would be brought by the caterer.

We went with an all-inclusive. They set up everything--tables, chairs, linens, dishes--and clean it all up at the end of the night. We are just responsible for our decor.

If you choose a venue that does not offer a caterer, you might have to rent linens and dishes. Some venues do offer this. Check what the venue has to offer. If there isn't a full kitchen, the caterer will want to know that so they can prepare offsite.

I'm inclined to say it's easier to have the caterer attached to the venue, but that's coming from my experience. I only had to communicate with one person for everything related to the wedding and reception, so it made it a lot easier. Prices in our area were comparable, so it really came down to the convenience factor.

Where in montreal have you guys been looking? fellow montrealer here Smiley smile

Youd have to figure out which location goes with your idea for your wedding day and go from there. After that you'd have to calculate which option is cheaper. How much are the plates? gratuity on top? does it include serving dishes and cutlery, basically your table setting? Does your venue allow an outside caterer?

Some places we were looking at had no/cheap rental fee but nothing was included. we would have to rent tables, chairs, linens, servingware etc. It becomes expensive.
