Cancelling Vendor - Do i Need to Pay Remaining Balance??

Alison, on April 28, 2023 at 16:01 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice/reassurance. I booked a hair & makeup artist for my wedding & paid the deposit to reserve the date. She’s been super unresponsive & I found a cheaper & better artist whose style matches mine more who I would like to book. My original H&M artist never sent me a contract, so I obviously never signed a contract. On her website, under the cancellation policy it says that you are not required to pay anything if you cancel your contract 6+ months before the wedding, BUT it says absolutely nothing about what happens if you cancel less than 6 months out (I’m 2.5 months out). Can she force me to pay anything if there is no formal contract & no cancellation policy stated for my timing on the website? I’m a Canadian bride but our wedding is in Scotland, if that makes any difference. I don’t want the deposit back, I just want to not have to pay the remaining balance.

Thanks SO much for your help 💜💜💜

Absolutely not. If your makeup artist isn't replying to your messages then you shouldn't bother about her remaining balance. Rather you can ask for a refund also. Best wishes for your wedding dear!

You shouldn't have to pay anything except your deposit if anything. But do let her know you no longer need her services.

If there is nothing written about cancellations within 6 months (contract, policy, or otherwise) then you're off the hook.

I mean even if there were a contract, what is she going to do? Sue you from Scotland over a few hundred bucks?

I can totally relate. No you do not pay any balance. No contract signed, no balance owing. You should reach out and just tell her you are cancelling and you should ask for the deposit back. You may lose the deposit, hopefully not too much. I would definitely write a Google review and let others know your experience.
