Can the neckline be changed?

Hi all, I bought a pronovias dress that I loooove (in large part for its bateau neckline and dramatic lace back, as per first picture). I’m pretty petite but have proportionately wide shoulders - and when I tried it on in my actual size the neckline converted to more of a tank-top style. We tried to add a bit of scrap lace to fill out the shoulders a bit - but I really miss the straight-across bateau neckline that initially really sold me on the dress. Can this be done?? I’ve seen pictures on other brides and they look the same as mine...it seems to be a design flaw and the first picture even shows a wrinkle in the top which leads me to believe the neckline isn’t even possible unless you wear the dress in a size that’s too big. Thoughts?

That’s so misleading of them Smiley sad
I know it’s not what you wanted but the dress does still look beautiful on you. Hopefully you’re able to work out a solution.

This is the sample I tried on - it had the crew but the stylist assured me it would have the straight across neckline in my proper size. Maybe they didn’t know the dress that well and I know they had the best of intentions.

The large V is a shadow yea, the true cut is more of that rounded crew neck. The first picture is definitely the same dress. It’s really too bad because I love the style of the pronovias dresses but it’s disappointing to be misled from pictures that don’t truly represent the look of the dress.

The V is just a shadow - the actual cut is more of that crew neck look. This is post alteration but before alteration looked very similar

Is the first picture supposed to be the same dress? If that's what the sample looked like and the second pictures are pre-alterations, I would be asking for a refund and a new dress on rush order from the store. That is clearly a very different style and if that's how the brand is advertising the dress I think it's extremely misleading. This isn't even a matter of a different body shape. You can see how the neckline sort of scoops in on you instead of going straight across.

I'm also going to assume the large V shape on the front of your dress is a shadow and not part of the cut of the dress? If it is part of the cut I don't think there's any way to salvage it. If it is a shadow then maybe there's enough fabric in the seams to let out the shoulders a bit and make the neckline a bit straighter? But really only a seamstress that can physically open the dress and look at it will be able to tell you. I also think the added lace emphases the shape of the top, rather than hides it.

I would talk to your seamstress and see what they have to say. They know more about those kind of things then we do. It could probably be done but it might cost you a arm and a leg to get it changed

I would talk to your bridal shop or whoever is doing your alterations, it can probably be done but it might be pricey. My dress is currently a v-neck and I want it off the shoulder so they are taking the sleeves off and restructuring a bit to make the sleeves off the shoulder and the dress will become strapless so I would imagine it’s possible

I personally don’t think it’s possible, and I think it would be very expensive. For what it’s worth, I think it’s absolutely beautiful on you.

Even if you can find someone who can do it, it's going to be pretty expensive and I don't think it'll look good. Did the sample you looked at not have the major V going on? Just by looking at the cut and the way the fabric angles, I can tell there's no way that dress was ever the straight style bateau neckline.
