Cake or Something Else?

Shaina, on December 1, 2017 at 18:16 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 32
I'm not big into cake (unless it's a very, very moist -sorry, I know people hate that word, lol- chocolate CUPcake, lmao) so I don't really want to spend a crazy amount on a cake. I was thinking maybe a candy table, or just a dessert table... possibly a mixture of the two. Is anybody else doing something that's not cake? Are you getting a smaller cake as well, or completely skipping the cake altogether?

Huge cakes are too much and feel as a show piece. Three small wedding cakes plus pastries were served to our guests abd teue as one said less to take home. Less wastage too.

I didn't want cake at all. so instead, We had 7 different types of pie, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.

    The pies were a hit!

We're just doing a tiny cake to cut, then having donuts instead! Our venue also includes a late night buffet with tea, coffee, and other desserts. Plus, dessert comes with their meal as well!

I really like the idea of a candy buffet though, as that's my guilty pleasure! I'm a sucker for candies and sour stuff Smiley love

I feel for you! My mom couldn not believe that we didn't want a cake. She ended up convincing me to at least get a small one to cut. The guests will enjoy a dessert buffet. Hopefully you can come to a compromise or decide one way or another. Good luck!!

Not yet, I think DF doesn't know what to say about it because his dad keeps saying we HAVE to have a cake. It's getting a little frustrating 😂

Sounds like my fiancé too! And I totally know what you mean! There are so many cute ideas and he doesn't like them lol (well some he does). Yeah I can believe it! I love fudge!

Yeah, he shot it right down. I also really loved the idea of getting some multi-level cake stands and doing a few differnt flavours of bundt cakes because it looked so cute and fall-like but he hated that too, lol. The fudge was a huge hit though!

Oooohhh fudge sounds so good! My fiancé would have felt the same as your fiancé about the donut wall.

My mom is a baker so she is making cupcakes for us and then we have some tarts and pies, we didn't want to be stuck with a massive cake !

A donut wall was one of my ideas but the husband wasn't feeling it! We ended up giving out fudge as our favours and has a small cake for us to cut and do the ceremonial bite from (that no one else ended up eating and now we have a monstrous amount of cake in our freezer!)

I don't like cake that much either. We did a table of desserts - mini pies, brownies and cupcakes. I don't think you need to have cake at a wedding anymore. Have what you would like to eat.

A lot of people are skipping the cake now to do other things instead, like the candy table. I would do a dessert table as not all people eat candy.

Just less stuff to bring home hahaha and plus it's cake... it will go bad so might as well leave it for someone that will eat it Smiley smile

Wow, I didn't even think of somwthing like that. I feel like a jerk 😂.
Maybe if FH actually decides to give some real input and he wants a cake then we can do that with any leftovers.

Honestly, ice cream is my life so I thought about having some sort of ice cream thing but I feel it would be far too expensive.

Don't think it's just him. Many men are like that. Buy the cake and make him eat it, then watch his reaction! If he starts making weird man sounds, you can translate that as a yes! Lol

    That sounds soooo good 😩!
I tried asking DF what he wants to do, but it seems like whenever I asked him about anything regarding the wedding he tells me he doesn't know 😅.

    Ouu, donuts are good too!
I'm starting to think that because of my huge love of most junk food we can do cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc., and then maybe go to the Bulk Barn for candy and just have a dessert/candy table. Lol.

Hahahah your post is hilarious. I don't know why people hate that word! I think saying I like wet cake is weirder! Lol We are having a cake because my cousin is a cake artist and I want to have a cake of hers!!!! If you go on Pinterest you'll see tonnes of cake alternatives! Like crepe cakes, waffle cakes etc.. My favourite cake is an italian Sfoglia cake. It's pastry layers with custard and strawberries. It blows my mind every time I eat it. It would be a different cake to serve too. Just some ideas......good luck.

Yes I know!!! My fiancé loves cookies!! He literally could be a Cookie Monster. And I think it will be more economical for us as we will just make most of them and ask some close relatives if they could

We are skipping the cake, I love cake but dinner comes with dessert (Creme Brulee) and wedding cakes are $$$ and it's not within the budget and not everyone likes cake.
