Cake or no cake?

Brianne, on July 3, 2023 at 17:54 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 16
Hey everyone! My fiancé and I have been talking about not having a wedding cake but want different ideas instead.. if you didn’t do a cake did you replace it with something else?

My friend is having a baking day where everyone from the bridal party and parents, are bringing their favourite recipe and we'll make a couple dozen of everything so there are lots of options for guests. That way it's a little more personal and we don't have to worry about any allergies guests have.

I would definitely do a different dessert. You could replace it with something you enjoy or love, buck the trend and try something unique. You could do a dessert buffet or dessert tower.
I had a cake at my last wedding but this time around I’m open to new ideas. Here are a few that I found that could be interesting.

We are doing a cheesecake just for us and then a full or half slab cake for the guests. The bakery that we are ordering all this from is a preferred vendor of our venue and it's also economical as most won't eat the cake/won't remember the cake.

Our venue provided dessert with the meal so we did donuts around 8 pm. Way more affordable and we avoided a cake-cutting fee. They were also delicious and more fun because people could eat them with their hands it didn't interrupt the dancing.

I would definitely suggest some sort of dessert.

I would see what your bakeries are offering and possibly do a spread of items like cheesecake, pies, brownies, cookies, cake pops, etc. if you do not want cake or cupcakes. Or you can do a combination of the both and offer cupcakes and cake.

We are doing a 6 inch cake and then 5 dozen cupcakes! I am so excited for this - from doing this we got 4 different flavours of desserts and I am so pumped.

So many optionsSmiley cake My friend did a dessert table, I've been to one wedding it was a tower of doughnuts. A couple of years ago my coworker did local pies, different sorts and a dessert table to mix it up. the cupcake trend was big, but I feel like it's quieting down.

Do what you guys want and love. Some skipped the cake and just did a table spread of anything and everything.

We both didn't want a traditional wedding cake either. We went red velvet and chocolate cupcakes and a 6" tier on top. Everyone was eying them all night! Cake or no cake? 4

We are doing a small cake for us to cut and the rest is cup cakes. So much simpler and easier.

We will be doing a cupcake tower with a 6” cake on top and 4 flavours of cake truffles (think cake pop without the stick) on the lower levels. We are planning for about 1.5 per person and came out way under budget when we ordered!

We had an August wedding and I like you did not want a traditional wedding cake so we did summer tarts : lemon, strawberry rhubarb, fresh fruit, chocolate peanut crumble. It was a big hit and we were able to organize them in a cute way and guests could just easily take one. It was the perfect pairing with tea and coffee too!
