Cake Cutting: Yea or Nay?

Lynnie, on November 12, 2018 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 28

Are you going to have an official cake-cutting moment (and photo op)? Or are you skipping the fanfare and getting right to the delicious desserts? Smiley cake

Yes but we’re doing just a single layered cake just for cutting purposes

Amie, we didn't even have our cake cutting announced and got the pictures taken for a few minutes. The decision comes upon you to make that call for the announcement or not though everyone will see the cake beforehand.

Great question. I’m happy to see this post because I’m contemplating what my FH and I are going to do about the cake cutting. We are having a five course plated dinner. Of course, dessert will be apart of the dinner so we have decided we will NOT be serving/offering cake to our guests. We will be offering a chocolate fountain later in the night too so I don’t think the guests will miss the cake.

That being said, we will still have a small cake for the ‘cake cutting ceremony’ but it’s mainly for photos. Should we even announce our cake cutting and have a traditional cake cutting ceremony if we aren’t serving the cake? Or should we discretely cut the cake and get a few photos?

We are having a cake simply for the tradition of saving a tier, and a cake cutting. It's a 4"/6"/8" cake, saving the top, cutting the middle, and a "faux" layer for the bottom, just so it doesn't look so small. We're having mini cupcakes and a s'mores bar for the dessert.

Yup! But no cake-face-smashing. We both hate this, and won't do that.

I don't know! Just the other day I really got into the idea of having a cake when I was 100% against it before. So this is a big maybe right now.

We’re doing 1 tier of cake just to cut and then cupcakes underneath - I’ve never eaten wedding cake at a wedding and I love cupcakes!

I love cake, so we are having cake and the traditional cake cutting as well. Except we will be using a sword to do the cutting. Absolutely no cake-in-the-face though.

We are definitely doing a cake cutting, we love cake too much not too. There will be no smashing cake in each other's faces though, my fiance says that's a waste of good cake Smiley tongue
