Buying wedding invitations from India and shipping to Canada?

Nalini, on March 15, 2018 at 11:33 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6

So I've looked at a number of Canadian/American invitation websites but none of the designs have really caught my eye. I have seen a number of websites which sell/ship their invitations from a different country for much cheaper than what I could get in Canada.

It's the exact same website, just in the Indian version, with the exact same invitation, the exact customization, and shipping but it's almost half the cost.

My only worry is getting hit with customs/duties when they are shipped. If it's going to end up being the same price after customs/duties, I might as well buy them in Canada.

Any advice? Know anyone who has done this before? Good idea?

Where did you end up getting your invitations from?

I understand your dilemma! I was In the same boat myself . I ordered mine from India ( Hitchedforever.com) and even with shipping and taxes, I found it much cheaper that what the person in Ontario was quoting me ( with a MUCH better design and quality ). I wanted to be traditional and insert a metallic Ganesha on the front and that’s the only website I liked the invites on, but you can also find nice designs on Vistaprint as well .
I did my Engagement and Save The Date cards from Vistaprint .

Indian cards are costonf the same as here now adays with the inserts and RSVPs. I have seen some invitations from cousins theat have gone western to cut costs. Suggestion website is vistaprint.ca if you want to check them out. You may be surprised to what you choose.

Definitely ask that the duties will be prior to ordering. I'm very leery of online websites that show the exact same invitation as another company. They may be fake. Do as much research as you can on the website first and read as many review sites as you can.

Make sure that the price is switched to Canadian. I accidentally checked out of a US site thinking I got an awesome deal.. (even though I created an account in cad & had my Canadian address put through) only to find they charged my card an extra 70$ -_- I wasn’t charged anyone more in shipping than what the site showed though. Like Becky said, it would be a good idea to contact them if you’re unsure of anything.

Are you able to call the company and ask if the duties are included? If they aren't I would ask the estimate of what it would be!
