Bustier help!

Peggy, on May 2, 2018 at 11:43 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 14

So...I'm stuck and need help. I'm a plus size girl, and I was adamant that I wanted a gown with straps so I could wear a good supportive bra. So what do I go and fall in love with? You got it - a strapless gown with a low back!

Bustier help! 1

Where can a girl go to find a GOOD strapless, backless/low backed bustier (bra won't cut it because of the back height) that won't cost me 400$? I'm in Edmonton, but am not opposed to shopping online.

If you want to rip down go calgary, there is a store called Knickers and Lace. They have all sizes and styles- only place I have been able to find my size!

When you get your alterations get them to sew a bra in! Best way to go about it honestly!

Did you ask the girls from where your purchased your dress? When my mom got
married she purchased a bustier for her dress from a bridal salon. I don’t think it was cheap but it definitely wasn’t $400

Edmonton is a pretty big city, try searching Google for some 'specialty' or 'one-off' lingerie stores, they usually carry a MUCH wider size range... I wore a 36G for the longest time... no store anywhere carried my size (even department stores)... but there is a place near me called Forever Yours Lingerie and they carry everything from nearly there to oh-my-goodness. It's a little pricier than La Senza or VS, but not like, $400 expensive.

Thanks ladies - unfortunately, places like Victoria's Secret, La vie en rose, La Senza, etc have lingerie - pretty pieces that don't offer real support.

I will try bridal salons but haven't heard great things about their options.

My background is actually in costuming for theatre, and historical costuming - I can make a fantastic corset, but don't really want to make my own for this situation!

If you have a Victoria's Secret near you they may be able to help you. I would also go to La Vie En Rose if you have that out your way. I would also try bridal salons and maybe talk to a few seamstresses as they may know someone. You could also try asking a local theater company for advice/recommendations.

Have you tried just at department stores for a low back long line bra? You could pick up a few options and bring them to your next fitting, then return any that don't work (as long as you've checked their return policies of course!)

I would check some local plus size stores or even go onto Etsy to see if someone could make you one to your measurements.

Sadly, not with my girls! I wish - it would make life way easier.

Is there any way they can build in a bra/corset into the dress to give the extra support that way?

My dress has both built in (as well as some extra padding) which makes my life sooo much easier!

Make sure whatever you do, you can try them on and SIT with them on for a bit. I bought a full bustier and had to get the seamstress to cut it shorter as I couldn't sit properly at all.

David's bridal has great prices for that kind of stuff. That's where I bought mine.

I saw a really nice one at Nordstrom!

It was like upwards of $100, but definitely not $400.

Might be a good idea to check it out? I do know that they ship to your house if you go into the store and they don't have it - I'm not even sure if there's a Nordstrom in Edmonton, I'm sorry - but you can definitely shop online as well.
