Bridesmaids / groomsmen for destination wedding - does bride/groompay or do bridesmaids/groomsmen?

Chris, on February 15, 2017 at 20:55 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4

I am having a destination wedding. I know the colours of the bridesmaids dresses but I wanted the bridesmaids to help select their own style. As it a destination wedding, and they are already paying to come, how does this work. Do I pay? Do they pay? Do I offer to split the cost? Do they wear their own shoes? Do I pay for the shoes?

Same thing for the groomsmen, we cannot rent as its a destination wedding but we are not doing tuxes, do I pay, do they pay? Do I offer to split? I need to spend some time looking at ideas on what to wear on the feet/ style etc. for men.

We will have a ring bearer who is 2 so I will be paying for him but should I be paying for everyone?

Thanks

    Hi
We are having 2-4 stand undecided due to the groom. Most of his friends cannot attend and his brother likes to be centre of attention therefore he is not attending.
The guys are brown shoes, brown belt, creme/beige pants, white shirt and undecisive vest or no vest , tie or no tie.
Ring bearer will be similar but may with a hat.
The girls will be all same colour - they can chose the dress style and colour will be Malibu, Turkoise, topaz, ocean blue , colour as the reply button on this site.
I am buying the same blue to tie into decor.
The problem Fabricland has Turkoise ribbon in 5 different colours all called Turkoise, same with Michaels so super hard to match. But dresses will.be all same colour then will get ties in same colour and bow tie for the toddler.
How do you approach it what is your buget and offering to help?
If you help the girls do you have to help the guys? Of course we will buy the ties etc. Thanks

Since it is a destination wedding are you going very traditional where they need to match? can your bridesmaid and groomsman pick something on their own as long as they stay in your colour theme...maybe this way they can wear something they already have or get something going to buy for the trip anyways and can reuse and save both of you and them money....but i understand wanting matching and the pictures so my thoughts may not be to helpful but i thought why not... and for shoes...maybe bear foot in the sand....unless your going to a spot on property.
But ultimately im with val...you do not HAVE to pay but anything you could do im sure could help!

Hi Kris! Smiley heart I'm happy to read you here! I love hearing about your destination wedding Smiley smile I'm sure your bridesmaids and groomsmen would really appreciate your help with their outfit since they are paying for their accommodation and travel. If you're on a budget, you could set a reasonable budget for their outifit and if they wish to spend more, they could pay the difference. As for the shoes, if you don't have any formal requirement, they could use a pair they already own and if need be, you could offer to contribute. What colour did you choose for your bridesmaids? Smiley smile

If you can afford to pay or help pay I am sure your wedding party will GREATLY appreciate it! But you don't HAVE to pay. You do need to ask them all what their budget is (individually and privately) and stick to the lowest budget (or let them pick their own dresses if you want). As for shoes and accessories, if you require them to get something specific then yes, you would pay for that. But if you just want them to wear something very basic, black flats (for example), then you do not need to pay.

The men, I personally just told mine to wear a black suit and white shirt. But it pretty much works the same as the bridesmaids, ask for their budget and then try to find a suit that fits the lowest budget.
