Bridesmaid dress appointments - Edmonton

Hailey, on January 31, 2021 at 12:23 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 11
Hey Everyone! I’m wondering how many shops is realistic to check out for Bridesmaid’s dress/suits in a day? 1, 2 maybe 3?

I live in a rural area and and planning to eventually look for bridesmaids dresses in Edmonton. It’s a 5 hour drive for me to get there, my Maid of Honour luckily lives in Edmonton already, and my other bridesmaid is 2.5 hours in the opposite direction as me. I also have a bridesman who I hope to coordinate with the girls. He lives in the same town as me.
Since most of us are travelling we want to condense this as much as possible. Is it realistic to find dresses and a suit in 1 day, where my bridesmaid travelling 2.5 hours would be able to do a day trip. Or it it more realistic for me to book some hotel rooms and spend a weekend or so?
Also if anyone has some good recommendations of places that have both dresses and suits in Edmonton that would be amazing. Thank you all in advance!

I've ordered my bridesmaids dresses and their masks from there too. One dress is here already ( bc it wasn't customized) and so are the masks. So far the quality is good and i did not pay any taxes

Yeah. It’s so hard with COVID. I want to do a bit of a mismatched look so it won’t be as simple as picking one dress. I’ll have to talk with everyone separately maybe and get an idea of what neckline they are comfortable with and maybe I can use that to narrow down some styles and colours before hand. I wanted brown tones, but it seems like no one has brown dresses at the moment Smiley sad

You could definitely do a couple. With covid it’s only appointment based and they tell you exactly how long you are booked for. I went to David’s bridal last weekend and we ended up going over our appointment- but we did order bridesmaids dresses, and bought and ordered flower girl dresses. I’d say going in with an idea of what you are looking for also. With covid you are usually restricted to how many dresses you can try on - so to save time figure out what type of styles you want to focus on.

I think I’ll aim for two appointments then if we are only doing one day. I’m just assuming my bridesmaid would want to drive back as that’s what she did shopping for her own wedding dress. We get used to driving long ways for stuff where we are lol. But yeah, I’ll definitely go over a timeline with everyone to see what will work and go from there. Do you know if shops are typically open on Sunday’s? Thanks

My wife works at a bridal shop and they usually schedule 90 minutes for appointments. So you could set aside 2 hours (90 mins appointment, 30 mins travel time) per location and try to plan your day accordingly.
You may also want to ask your bridesmaid about her drive and what her plan is. Driving 5 hours in one day is tiring and she may need to leave at a certain time to avoid traffic, wildlife, etc. Once you have a good idea of how that will look, you can see how many 2 hour slots you can fit in.

If you use inspiration pictures and view a catalogue ahead of time so you can narrow down some ideas, I think hitting two or three in a day is doable, especially if they keep your appointment to a max of one hour (that was the case when I booked a suit appointment with various retailers). Because your time in the store is limited, you want to have some ideas on selection before walking in, otherwise a good chunk of time is wasted on looking at dresses rather than trying them on.

As for matching the bridesman, David's Bridal is affiliated with Moores and share the same colour palette. And as others mentioned, Azazie has ties and vests in the same colour as the ladies' dresses. Keep in mind, the guy's stuff will be satin while the girl's likely chiffon or tulle, so while the colour is the same grade, it won't be an exact match. My personal opinion is, it doesn't matter that it's not an exact match. I actually prefer this but I know some brides are very meticulous on matching everything 110% exact. If you're okay with not matching 100%, you can open up your bridesman shopping to many more places closer to home and he won't have to be dragged along for dress shopping (unless he wants to be there!)

As a guy, I would personally advise against the vests at Azazie because the fits are meh and the look is very prom like due to the satin sheen.

Azazie offers mens items as well! They have ties and vests that match the dresses! They also offer free custom sizing for the dresses so minimal need for alterations usually!! I have ordered a bridesmaid dress from them and it was good quality!

That’s definitely a good back up plan. I purchased my own makeup wedding dress online so we kinda missed out of the whole experience of dress shopping, which is why I want to do it the bridesmaids, but that is a really solid plan. The only problem I might run into is matching the bridesman.

    Hey!
Not directly related to your question. But a back up plan if things don’t go according to plan and you don’t get everything done in a day would be ordering online. https://www.azazie.ca/ This website Azazie allows you to get fabric swatches, do at home try ons and there’s quite a few dresses between $90-$120. I’ll be ordering my bridesmaid dresses through them! Their website has a whole bunch of features and info on it and I would definitely recommend it.

Yes my plan is to make appointments, that’s why I want to be sure not to over schedule. I also don’t want to not find what we want after a couple stores and not be able to look anywhere else because I didn’t make appointments lol

I think you can do at least 2 in a day. But make sure you make appointments before you go. I know most places here in Edmonton for bridal stores are on an appointment base only because of covid no walk ins unfortunately
