Brides Opinion for Save The Dates/invites for covid

Chelsey, on January 11, 2021 at 21:01 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7

Hello fellow Brides,

I am getting married May 29th, 2021 and still plan to go forth with the wedding! I haven't sent out any save the dates or invites yet and I'm not sure how to approach the idea knowing everyone on my original guest list wont be able to attend due to covid restrictions .

do I still send out save the dates to the original guest list? I was thinking of sending out save the dates to all guests stating we are thinking of them during this time, still planning to go forth with the wedding and letting them know that due to covid we wont be able to include all guests and only till basically a month before they'll be getting a invite if there included? obviously i will be putting it in a nicer way

I would love your opinions

thank you!

So I will just speak for invitations, as I am a May bride as well and I'm planning my invitations right now.

If restrictions are not in code orange by the time we go to print, we have drafted up an additional insert card that will also be in the envelope stating that we are optimistic that community restrictions will be lifted so to please rsvp as normal by the stated rsvp date, and if things are not lifted by end of april we will give them a call to inform of any changed plans. Then on the RSVP card, i put a spot for them to list their phone number so that I have it.

This will basically tell your guests to RSVP as normal disregarding covid, and we will do the worrying about covid and reach out if needed.

This option also allows you to get your numbers in at a reasonable time and then adjust after if needed, instead of wait to get final counts until right before the wedding, which would delay making your seating chart, etc.

    Hey! We're date twins!

    This is what we've done:

Since we're also planning on forging ahead with a much-reduced in-person guest list (this may change, but that's the current plan) we're going to live-stream the ceremony. We sent out email save the dates with a link to our wedding website but only to select people that followed these criteria:

    1) Wedding party

    2) Immediate family

    3) Guests we know will be very understanding about attending digitally.

Essentially, we didn't want to send a Save the Date to anyone who won't "make the cut" even if we're allowed to increase our guest list to 40 people, even though we might ask them to attend the live stream part, just because we didn't want to cause hurt feelings or confusion.

We also mentioned many times over that things might change. But basically, we wanted to get the Save the Dates out there to share the website (people kept asking what our plans are) and since May 29th is so close to the long weekend, people might make plans to go to the cottage for the week and we just want them to well... save the date haha.

Save the Date isn't going to be needed at this point if your date is not set for a full reception unless things cleared up fast. I would contact the site and ask if they would credit you so you can make invitations for a later date reception invitation. Get to enjoy your wedding on your day and let your guests party with you on your first year anniversary.

I agree with the others that you don’t probably need save the dates at this point. What I did was have two different wordings for my invites. There was one for the in person group and another inviting guests to watch online (this one had a note saying that we wish they could join us on the day but due to covid we couldn’t). The second one was really handy for all our out of country guests. Although now ALL of our guests are going to be online lol We’re getting married May 1st and having our reception in 2022

I think that since you're so close to your wedding date, you don't need to send out Save The Dates, only your invitation. I would though state on your invitation that pending on gathering restrictions.

I think at this point the invite is enough and you don't need the Save the Dates. Just specify that the invitation is pending government restrictions on covid and to monitor the wedding website for further details.

The thing is, a bunch of people might just RSVP no and that saves you from having to go through rounds of different invites at the last minute.

I would send save the dates to everyone with some kind of disclaimer like "invites will be send based on government regulations closer to the wedding."
