Bouquet alternatives

Abbie, on June 27, 2021 at 20:48 Posted in Plan a wedding 2 24
Anyone using alternatives to floral bouquets for themselves/bridal party? I’m torn between going for fake flowers, or doing something completely different (lanterns, perhaps? Or a single flower?)

That’s a good idea, too! I just want wildflowers, lupine for sure, but otherwise I’m not too picky Smiley smile

I am not sure if someone has commented this but I will be going with Something Borrowed Blooms. They are rented silk flowers and absolutely beautiful! Super cost effective and are a sustainable option. There is a Facebook page called SSB Brides where real brides post photos and ideas

If you choose to go for real flowers and you don’t have a specific type of flower in mind, see if there are any local flower farmers in your area. There are quite a few in my area, so I am planning on using their a la carte options for bouquets, boutonnières and corsages, and using their DIY buckets for centrepieces. I’m super excited that they are so local and will go with whatever flowers are in season and at their farm!

    Yes they are!!
Depending upon what you decide about the flowers; maybe you can do something like this or the last photo too, instead of thinking you’re not doing anything with the big flower after the day. Even if it’s faux as well. This would be a cool thing for you. You think?

Oh yeah, totally understandable. I’m having a plan to preserve the bouquet 💐 after the wedding as well.

So I am planning to follow a few of these ideas below like mix match each to keep it as a decoration in my home.

I love the last option as well. Maybe have two using the bouquets from the bridesmaid and boutonnières as well. Then then a mixture of photo 1 to 3, maybe keeping our written vows, a wedding photo with an engagement photo, our invitation printed (did it virtual) and the letter of our surname.

Yes, like that! Smiley laugh Ideally faux because I hate the idea of cutting flowers for one day, but if I would do real ones from an eco-responsible company Smiley smile

I’m considering artificial flowers too! That way they can be repurposed as decor and it’s not so wasteful Smiley smile

I LOVE books so have been tempted by this idea...but also don’t know if I would be traumatized by making a bouquet out of a book 😂

Artificial bouquet is a great alternative to the real for its cost of lasting one day. I had our MOHs carry a lotus flower with a tealight candle. Its an Indian flower that is not commonly used as bouquets.

Here are some random examples of bridesmaids in different colored dresses holding clutches. I think it looks fine but that will depend on your personal tastes.
I think a small thing of flower attached to the clutch as shown in some of these examples could work if you ready want to incorporate flowers but not go all out. It'd be one bloom per person instead of a whole bouquet. And as I mentioned previously, corsages are also an option and this way, if the bridesmaids have to put down the clutches, you can still see an element of florals on their outfit.Bouquet alternatives 9

Maybe a fan in this case, not a parasol. The parasol is a lot more than a bouquet 💐. Haha! Even if you don’t want a big bouquet, you can have a smaller one?

I guess a bouquet is overrated, but I still like the bouquet idea. Or corsage.

I went with a bouquet that was actually made from book pages from my favourite book, and it had little paper flower accents in one of our wedding colours. It was perfect as I'm not a huge flower person but still wanted something to hold so I had something to do with my hands during the ceremony. Otherwise I would've been fidgeting constantly! Once the officiant asked us to hold hands during the ceremony I just passed it off to my coordinator and she put it somewhere safe for the rest of the day. So I'm definitely glad I had it, and since it's paper I can easily keep it too.

What do people think of parasols or fans? I think they’re cute and double up as practical but I’ve seen some pretty scathing remarks about them being cheap and showing a lack of respect to your bridesmaids too 😬

I’m quite liking the idea of a clutch actually - seems so practical and it’s a gift that will actually last and not wilt, lol! Just wondering how it will present in pictures?

My thing is I suppose that I actually really love wildflowers and would like to incorporate them, I’m just very mindful of the environmental and fiscal cost of bouquets.

I second Christiana's comment. Bouquets are completely, optional in my opinion. And a lot of people don't like the idea of constantly holding something on their hands all day long.

If you want something floral related but don't want to splurge, you can opt for a corsage. It'll match boutonnieres on the men.

If you really want something hand held, maybe a clutch? Then your bridesmaids can hold a bunch of your knick knacks like your phone throughout the day. The MOH can even hold your ring, which is typically done by the Best Man since bridesmaids typically have their hands full and no pockets.

I guess it’s not necessarily an alternative but I didn’t have a bouquet at all. If you want to keep things pretty simple and bouquets aren’t your thing it’s totally alright to ditch them outright. Some people who were pro-bouquet told me they’d make photos look better or I’d feel awkward without one but I’m totally happy with my decision.
