Booking Venue/photographer

Shaina, on November 3, 2017 at 06:38 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10
My FH and I are getting married in April 2019. Now, he has a place in mind for the reception, but he also wants the ceremony to be there as well. I don't really mind because I just want something simple and this will be easier than moving the guests from one place to another... He works at the place on the weekends, but I'm not sure if I should call and get pricing and information since I'm gonna be doing most of the planning, or if he should talk to the owner when he goes in for work. Is it too early to start asking and booking things? Especially for the wedding photography, should I book now? How long should I book the photographer for? Just a couple hours, all day? I'm so clueless when it comes to this stuff. Lol.

I'm pretty sure FH and his dad took care of the reception venue, we're just waiting to confirm. I pay my deposit for my photographer on Thursday. We did talk about doing the ceremony in the same place as the reception but now DF wants a separare venue 😅

I would set up an appointment for the both of you to go in and speak with somebody about booking the venue. That way you're both present and can get everything in writing. We booked our photographer and the venue as soon as we got engaged. It's never too early to start booking. Our photographer had different packages that you could choose from which labeled the amount of time he would spend with you. We went with a 10 hour package to ensure he captured getting ready, first look, ceremony, and the important stuff that happens just after dinner. We also decided to our ceremony and reception in one place. It just makes it easier for the guests, especially seeing as how most are traveling in from out of town 8+ hours to be there with us.

So true! I don't want to be super stressed super close to our day. But since we're still 18 months away I wasn't sure if venues or photographers would let me book that far ahead. Lol.I'm not sure if I want the getting ready pictures either. It doesn't really seem like a big deal to me, lol.

Its never too early to start booking. The more you do now the less stressful it will be later Smiley smile
And also the sooner the better for photographers because they book up quick! How long to book for really depends on what you want out of your photos... For me i dont care about getting ready photos and my photographer is not photographing anything at the reception... Bsically just ceremony, wedding party photos, Couple photos and family photos. So we were looking for about 4 hours. We picked my photographers smallest package which was 5 hours so we hVe a little more flexibility in the day.

I think I know who I want for a photographer. She takes great pictures and isn't super duper expensive. She just did my sisters wedding, and she was super fun and really nice. Lol.

I would say it is never too early to book a venue. I think it might be ok for your FH to approach the owner and ask about wedding pricing but it might be easier if he set up a meeting for you guys so that you both get to hear the information.

As for photography, I'm not sure how long you should book them for since my photographers were family friends and there all day and night. I would definitely start looking at portfolios though.
