Booking hotel - tips? advice?

Tiffany, on April 5, 2017 at 10:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7

Hello!

Has anyone reserved rooms at a hotel yet for their wedding?

I would like to reserve some rooms, but i'm not sure how I should approach it. At the moment I only have a handful of guests who may want to book a hotel. But most are family so they are most likely staying at our homes instead.

I think I mostly want to reserve rooms in the event guests decide they want to stay at a hotel the night of the wedding (drink too much etc.). <-- Is this a thing?

Am I able to reserve rooms for those right now? Would I need to pay a deposit fee or something? And IF I reserve some rooms, and none of my guest end up taking them, would I get charged a holding fee?

I called 1 or 2 hotels so far and I guess I wasn't understanding them well so both times I was left confused. I hope one of you girls could help me out!

Thanks!

Note: I myself will stay at the hotel the night before and the night of the wedding. My wedding party will stay the night before but whether they stay the night of the wedding is up to them! I don't know if this information will help too Smiley tongue

I was able to book a block of rooms - they give you so many rooms, at a discounted rate and a code to give your guests that they mention when they book - to be booked at that rate. The rooms usually need to booked by a certain date, once that date arrives - the rooms are released to the public and you pay regular price.
There are no deposits required - I think that may be a thing in the United States - as I have read about it on wedding sites that were based in the US. I didn't have to leave a CC or anything on file - just bride & grooms name, date for room block.

Sometimes - the hotel will have a deal- if you have so many people book rooms with them- you get a night free! Hope this helps!

    Hi Tiffany!

Welcome to the community! I'm so happy to hear from you! Smiley love Did you already find a hotel you like? Maybe you can look here. We have also a lot of promotions. In some you can normally book without deposit.

I put a block of hotel rooms on hold for my wedding in November because we are having it out of town. It was super easy, I just called and asked to hold a block of rooms for the wedding night. The first hotel did take my credit card number but they aren't charging me for rooms not used, they just go back into circulation if they aren't booked before October. The woman was wonderful and even gave us early check in so people could go to their hotel rooms before the wedding. If you think people will want hotel rooms I would hold some so that people don't have to pay as much for the rooms. It's a good idea if you have an open bar as well as it cuts down on anyone trying to drive home after drinking. Hope this helps!

The hotel where I live that I talked to said that any room that was not booked by 3 months before the wedding date, I would then have to pay for. I said screw that and gave a list of hotels with pricing information to my guests. In the end there are about 5 or 6 who are actually using a hotel. The rest are heading home after or are staying with family

We did this. I contacted a hotel closest to our venue and they are holding a block of 15 rooms for us. It is free of charge and Our guests will receive a special rate if they book under our name. Our wedding is in September, and they are holding the rooms until August 15. After that date, the rooms will no longer be held and the special rate will expire. We are only holding 15 rooms because most of our guests live close to the venue, and so they will not need any accomodations. Our hotel also said that if the 15 rooms are sold out and we need more, we can add extra at no charge. I found some hotel policies to be different than others, and this hotel was the best by far.

Our wedding is in September, I contacted two hotels close to my venue... The first is holding 45 rooms for us until July and giving our guests a discout rate at no charge to us... After July the rooms will no longer be held... The second wanted a credit card number to hold the rooms, we decided not to block rooms there since there are ample rooms in the area and its not usually busy.

I've done this. You can definitely block a set of rooms for a hotel. They're not booked but kinda on hold for your guests. Your guests will have to book by X date in order to receive the rate.
They will probably ask for a credit card number for the hold. They will give you an agreement which will state if they'll charge you if no one books. However, There will be a day in your agreement that states when they have to be booked by.
I would just make a reminder in your phone to contact them to release the rooms reserved by that date. Anytime I've done this, they've contacted me in advance anyway.
    Hope that helps!
