Our wedding is in September this year. We ended up booking a block of rooms last November in the hotel where the wedding is being held.

I have booked a block of 20 rooms as our wedding is a Friday. While most of the guests are in the GTA some may not want to drive home after working part of the day and then attending a wedding until the wee hours of the morning....

Room blocks can be made arranged for how many you would be expecting under you name. This way every guest can take care of their booking arrangement provided the details and pricing.

We have a about 90 people attending, most are in Toronto - I did a quick count of the possible out of town guest and thinking I'll need about 15.

I have 100 guests but most of them live in the area so I blocked 25 rooms

My wedding is in September 2022 and I made the room blocks in September 2021! I just did it to get it over with !

You don't need to wait for the RSVPs to come back. You can guess by how many out of town invites you're planning to send. So if you're inviting 15 couples from out of town, book a block of 15 rooms. Once you get the RSVPs back, you can let out of town guests know if they plan to book your designated hotel ASAP. Then you can release the hold on the remainder (which the hotel will do anyway at some point prior to the wedding since they'll want to be able to sell the room).

How far in advance to book the block will depend on which hotel you're picking. How many rooms are you thinking of securing?

Just thought to book a block as it would be fun for our guests (friends) to be booked together. We are from Toronto, so all our family is there, but live in Ottawa. Easier for our friends to travel then our family, which is why we are having in Toronto.

Are you having your wedding in the hotel, or is the hotel separate from your venue?

If your wedding is in the hotel, you can ask for a hold on a certain number of rooms at a discounted rate that guests can book but they'll typically release them around two weeks prior to that date.

If your wedding is not in the hotel, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. The city, especially downtown, has a ton of hotels and airBNBs and I'm sure your guests will be able to find their own accommodations under their own budgets.
