Booking Fees for Hair and Makeup?

Christine, on June 1, 2023 at 13:53 Posted in Beauty 0 11
Has anyone encountered hair and makeup artists that charge a booking fee? (As in, NOT a deposit that goes towards your total. Just a fee to book the date.) Some that I’ve contacted do have this fee and some don’t. And it’s a very vague explanation like “to hold the date in our calendar and administrative” …. What’s this actually for, really? I don’t think it costs $100 worth of your time to book an appointment in your calendar. Seems like another “Just Because We Feel Like It” fee that are tacked onto so many wedding services…

Thank you to everyone who responded! I’m glad I’m not the only person who thinks these booking fees are ridiculous. I’m seeing it more and more as I look. Ugh.

Deposit to hold the date that goes towards the cost of the big day? Yes. "Booking fee"??? Get out of here. I assume you did all the work to research, get ahold of this person, and book lol. So what exactly are you being charged for? I would be looking for someone more reasonable.

I would not be going to someone who charges a booking fee!

Other than being charges for our trials our MUA didn't charge anything upfront to actually book her for our day.

I understand a deposit and if you cancel they keep the money, if you don't then they should put towards the day of the wedding. I honestly would not support a business like that, as a former hairdresser there is no need for this.

I have heard of some doing that, but personally think it’s unacceptable. Like you, I understand if it’s a non- refundable deposit that goes towards your balance, but what they’re asking is a fee. I’ve seen quotes lowest $30 and highest $100, seems like it’s something some MUA and hair stylists are trying to normalize, no other vendor has suggested anything like this to me.

Horrible! If you need someone let me know. My girl was amazing! She helped me out of a major jam when my first booked MUA bailed on me 2 months before the wedding.

I agree! Like if it were $25 I still would have been annoyed but I would have paid it. But the 2 so far that have indicated a booking fee it’s been $100. And then travel fees on top of that. It’s unfortunate cuz I found one I really liked but this fee completely turned me off

I agree, I would be put off by this and probably look for someone else. Good luck! Smiley smile

Sounds like the chick from Tattoo Gate on TikTok who got torn to SHREDS because of this.

Which is completely unnecessary. I would stay away from those type of companies/individuals, next thing you know, you are being charged a fee just to send pictures of the hair and make-up style you like.

For my hair and make-up in Banff Alberta, I don't have to pay a deposit until a month before my wedding and I am 100% booked already and have my schedule with them already.

I came across some who had that. But they never charged $100 for it. I was told $25-$50 tops. Anything more than that should be towards your actual date of trial and/or wedding date.
