Black Suit Wedding Attire

Courtney, on April 26, 2022 at 17:18 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 2

Our wedding colours are olive green, white, and black. I don't have a dress yet, but it will be white (not ivory). When my fiance and I were discussing his wedding suit the other day, he said because I'm wearing all white, that he thinks he wants to wear a full black suit (like John Wick). Our bridesmaid dresses will be olive green and the groomsmen will have white shirts, black tuxes, and green ties and pocket squares.

The only thing I'm worried about is that we're getting married in the middle of August and we're hoping to have an outdoor wedding. Would it be too hot for him to be in an entirely black suit? Has anyone done it before? I'd love to see some pictures of how it turned out!

I could defineitly be hot in August in Alberta, so there is a chance he will be hot, however, after the ceremony and you've taken all your photos, he can shed some layers to enjoy the night.

As for the all black suit, I think it would look real sleek, especially with the contracts of colors picked. Here are some photos I found online:

Do you have an overhead covering for your reception? If not, everyone will get hot and the men in black suits especially will get quite steamy (and not in the sexy fun way).

Typically black is only reserved for indoor evening events, if you care to follow tradition. One major issue with black suits in an outdoor August wedding (other than the heat) is the high chance of having the men's faces overexposed in photos due to the high contrast under the sun. Your fiance in particular can look like a giant black blob due to the lack of definition without the white shirt.

Also, if he's wearing a black suit with neck tie while the groomsmen are wearing a tuxedo, he's technically less formal than his party. Something to think about if that matters to you. And because he's going for the John Wick look, it might come off more costume-like then a formal outfit if others start making comparisons. If you and your fiance want a dark suit, may I suggest charcoal instead of black? It's less harsh in the sun and compliments other colours (like your green tie) better than black.

Is black and white actually part of your colour scheme (ie your decor, your invites etc)? Or are you just including it because it's the typical colour for wedding attire?
