Big or intimate

Tina, on February 24, 2017 at 13:04 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14

So I have a list of about 200 guests, 20 of those are children.

I have 80 imediate family members plus my Fiance's 30. Then our friends.

But if we really want the family, intimate feel we would have to drastically cut down our numbers and I'm seriously thinking about it.

I feel it will be more magical this way.

Have other's been in this scenario?

Mine will be under 100 (probably 60-70). We both don't have big families and if we don't hang out on a regular basis, then no invite.

I think the number might still be somewhere between 50-100, but I might surpise myself!

That IS a bigger group- we have just 4 parents, 3 siblings a date and an aunt and uncle (stand in for a deceased parent) for ours...then ourselves, the photographers and officiant round things out.

Maybe you could set a 30 person head count? That sounds like it might suit your group, especially if siblings and close friends have spouses!

Thanks Melissa...hope all is well with the health concern.. I wouldn't be able to get it that small, there are 14 of us just in the wedding party. that includes both of our siblings, 3 of my closest friends and his best friend.

my parents were separated when I was 3 and both were remarried and had children, so I have more family to contend with haha.

I was going to have a big party...and for health reasons that was changed to an intimate 15 person affair, and you know what? I'm kind of happy about it now! I do love a big fun wedding...but the small intimate idea is really nice too.

You certainly don't need to cut you list as small as mine, but If you want to keep things more intimate for only your closest crowd- I say go for it!

There are such weird politics with weddings!! FH tried to invite a cousin of his that is in her mid-twenties and he's NEVER MET HER!! It took his mom saying, "why would you invite her?" for him to believe me that is wasn't rude! But he just wants to invite EVERYONE where as I cut people that haven't even met FH (unless my parents specifically requested them... and because they are helping pay, I didn't argue, they only added like 4 so it was fine)

Yes I think I'll cut back on my side. We did try to just add people we have seen or spoken with in the last year. That is still a lot of people on my list but I also think a lot of the people won't even really enjoy it because they don't know us!! Even if they are family....I feel bad saying that but it's probably true

We invited 90 and if I could have convinced FH to cut his mom's side more (I've never met MOST of them) I would have in a heartbeat! I must prefer a smaller wedding to a big one with people I barely speak to regularily. But it's definitely a more personal preference
