Backyard wedding inspiration

Charlotte, on March 22, 2021 at 21:23 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 7
We have decided to downsize our wedding to a small backyard wedding, due to covid. I’m looking for some inspiration in the small details, guest book, decor.... I had some ideas when it was 100 people but now it’s 25. What were some of your little meaningful things last year for you? What small meaningful things are you planning this year?

We seem to like simple country, rustic.

It’s amazing how many details are involved in even a small wedding! You guys have certainly thought of everything! Your wedding is going to be absolutely beautiful!

For the guest book, I'm having a cheese board made. It wont be sealed so guests can sign it and we will then seal it and use it in the future!

Where the guest list is smaller a traditional guest book might look a little sparse. I've seen some cute "books" made from post cards people can write a little message on, or recipe cards where they can share recipes for food or for a happy marriage!

For simple and rustic: you can never go wrong with warm white twinkle lights. Wrap the trees and shrubs in them, use them as part of a centerpiece or runner, just put them everywhere! You can easily borrow them from friends and family (just label the strands so you can return them easier) or buy them second hand from newlyweds on kijiji or marketplace.

Choose the style you want to create and make the décor appeal accordingly. Simple centerpieces is enough with lights or lanterns above for lighting.

Wood stumps make for great rustic pieces. And you can find these lanterns at a lot of places.

Photographer and officiant are considered. Food is made and served by us (other guests). It will be a plated meal. I get that it won’t need too much decorations but looking for inspiration. I’m finding it hard to find photo inspiration that I like and feel would fit the space.

Decor will highly depend on the current setup of the backyard. For an intimate wedding, I wouldn't do much to it and focus more on the little details like table setup and the altar for the ceremony. A dress code will enhance the mood and look you're going for.

What kind of meal style are you planning? BBQ would fit your country vibe but you can also do brunch or something that incorporates bread and root vegetables like heart soups and flatbreads to feel rustic. Don't forget to factor caterers, servers, and other staff like photographer and officiant into your gathering limit.
