Avoiding your period

Nikki, on May 15, 2018 at 23:31 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 26
Hey ladies! I stopped taking birth control in October and since then my periods have been so unpredictable. Our wedding is still a long time away so there's definitely hope they'll become more regular. But I was curious what your plans are to avoid being on your period for your wedding.. Picking a date so far in advance has given me period anxiety lol!

I use the flo app to track my cycle . I have had a few early/late periods in the past few months which have then scheduled my period to begin the day of my wedding !! I have been off birth control for a while now due to my body reacting poorly to the hormones, but I do know that when I was on nuva ring, I was able to skip my periods whenever I want super easily. I am considering getting back on it just so I can skip it on my wedding day..... seems silly. But its the last thing I want to have to worry about on that day.

Its nutrient based therapy for your body! It helps your body produce the hormones it needs to re-balance your cycle.

I went off the pill in September last year, I worked with a naturopath to help my hormones balance by doing a saliva panel, and then doing seed cycling. I use the Flo app which has been amazing for determining my cycle and predicting it. I literally planned my wedding around it by forcasting out my schedule. Same with my honeymoon. Ladies - you CAN track your period, but you need about 6 months to be fully confident in the answer , for me it took a little bit of an investment up front, but now - its all good!

I unfortunately am just going to have to deal with it. I’ve tried the pill before and I tried a few different ones but nothing worked for me especially when it came to controlling my period, it made it go more haywire. I’ve still got a year and a half to go but currently I’m overweight and if I went to try and use the pill now it more than likely would fail. I’m just hoping since my cycle is more than a month that by the time the wedding hits it’s the first half of the month.

Was just going to take the pill if I calculate that it will be on my wedding. I keep track and have a more or less predictable cycle. Even then sometimes it's unpredictable.

Also worried I'll gain weight if I take the pill and won't fit my wedding dress Smiley xd

Ugh Yes to all of this! I'm in the same boat as Tori, I feel like I'll be lost when I eventually go off it to try getting pregnant. I also had really bad cramps a heavy flow before going on birth control, hopefully that doesn't happen again.

I'm avoiding it with the pill. I don't know what I'd do without the pill tbh lol.

I’ll be using the pill still so I know I can easily avoid it with that.

I wish there was a way to avoid mine. Mine came early this month which then means it starts earlier next month...which happens to be the day before our wedding, if my calendar is exact. I was so excited that i'd be period free at the wedding and the honeymoon but stressed screwed me over this month! lol

Yes that's what I was thinking! If closer too I've consecutively gotten my period the week of my wedding I think I'll opt to going on BC the few months prior and skipping my period altogether ideally. I get super bloated and bad cramps so I'd hate to have to deal with that in a sexy wedding dress, let alone worry about changing a tampon 😛😦

I mentioned my worry about this to my doctor and he said to take my BC pills back to back (skip the sugar pill week) which will allow me to skip my period the month of my wedding and it should just be a little heavier the next month when I have it again

I am 100% with you on this!
It makes things easier to plan things and as of right now (even though a year from now) my period SHOULD end a day before my wedding!
Birth control has been such a huge help for me for so many reasons I'm honestly not looking forward to being off it... pray my acne doesn't come back Smiley cry

Honestly I'm just hoping that my cycles stay around average until then. There's only three periods left before the wedding, and so far it looks like it will end a week before, so I should be good. But I know too well that I shouldn't trust that, especially since it's been almost a year since I had an unusually long cycle, and they used to happen all the time.

When I went off the pill and we started trying my period was all over.. it was super annoyt because obviously I was trying to get pregnant and some more than my period would be a week late but negative test... My tip for when you do start trying, don't take a pregnancy test right away after missed period, give it a bit as it may just be late. You'll have a ton of money lol

I'm on the birth control pill so for me I know for a fact when I will get mine and when I will not have it Smiley smile It's been a great help with planning vacations too! I have no idea how I will cope when I go off of it to start trying for kids though :/

Our wedding is June 1, 2019. We will have a 7 month old so I'll be breastfeeding, so I'm hoping that my body goes on that cycle and doesn't start my menstrual cycle until I finish! If I do happen to be on my period then I'll just deal with it, not much I can do about it

I would talk to your doctor about your options, but hoping your cycle regulates soon! I'm on BC and it just so happened that my period will come 2 weeks before and start again a week after getting back from our honeymoon (if we leave when we're planning to). If my period was going to happen during my wedding/honeymoon, I'd take consecutive BC pills (i.e. not using the sugar pill week and starting a new pack) to skip it.

I can vouch for the awesomeness of the Diva Cup too, I've been using mine for a year and I haven't looked back since! I travel often with my job/summer days are busier, that it takes a lot of stress out of my day for me.

My boss is a Dr. she was supposed to get her period before going to Hawaii, so she started taking the pill just before she left and while she was gone for the 10 days. That way it wouldn’t happen until she got back. That’s what I’ll do it the timing ends up being during my wedding, only because mine is bad. I don’t want to risk it. If it wasn’t so bad for me, then I wouldn’t care

I'm not on birth control - I track my cycle every month. It's less predictable now that I'm getting closer to 40 than 30, BUT my tracking app is usually close, within a day or two, of the start date.

According to my app, my period -should- be ending the day before my wedding - I'm hoping it comes a bit early that month but hey...such is life. I'm not changing my wedding date!

You could talk to your Dr and see what Dr says about how long it should take before your cycles regulate or if there is another reason for them not to have regulated by now

Unless you're on the pill or some form of birth control thst regulates cycles there isn't really anything you can do. Just go with it, planned my first marriage around my cycles and boom month before wedding cycles changed and then period ended up happening 2 days before wedding, it's gross but not the end of world. There just wasn't any wedding night or first 2 days of honeymoon "X". Thst marriage didn't work out.
I'm getting married in October and originally period was due to arrive few days before wedding, then found out was expecting it sadly had an etopic and lost baby, now my cycles have changed again and period will be 2 weeks before wedding.
The DIVA cup is awesome though! I have one and it takes a bit to get used to but love it!

I don’t know how I would plan that if I wasn’t on birth control. My pill makes everything pretty much like clockwork. If you don’t want to be on the pill but you’re worried about having to be on your period on your wedding day I recommend looking into something like the Diva Cup. You only have to change it every 12 hours, so you won’t have to worry about changing your pad or tampon in your wedding dress.
