They absolutely love him and already call him their son in law! The problem is they keep reminding me to not get married and take my sweet time getting there...

It shouldn't be awkward at all! If they are not expecting it, I'm sure they will be surprised, but thrilled.

Does your family get along with your FH? If that is a concern maybe you could talk to your family privately, or present yourselves as a "united front" and tell them you just hope for their blessing.

Yes we are! I have no idea on how it's going to pan out other than it'll be a little awkward!

I remember you said that were and you FH are planning your wedding and he his planning a proposal in the meantime- are you waiting to announce until then?

Do you think you will tell your families in a fun way? I have seen some relly cute mugs (someone on here has one.....) that you might be able to use. I kind of wish I had waited a few days to tell my mom in person, rather than by phone, but she lives in another city! I was bursting!

My mom and step-dad wont be helping out at all. We had a big falling out shortly after the engagement - we went to them asking for some financial help and they said no which was fine but then started making rude and inappropriate comments to us about our relationship and such and blew things up. They will however be giving us a cash gift at the wedding. My dad and step-mom gave us a gift to help us out as they just sold their house, they had some extra cash and they will also be giving us a cash gift at the wedding!

Hi Alexis! Smiley heart I think that's great that your mom wants to help out with the cost of your dress!! Will you go dress shopping together? Smiley love Do you already know what type of dress you want?

My mom wants to cover the cost of my dress, but I think we're on our own otherwise. Hence the 2 year engagement to save up.

Yup- spolied rotten actually! the market is totally overwhleming- especially because we both want to avoid going back to the one hour commute life. I like my 30 minute drive!

That's awesome! And takes a bit of the load off of the overhelming costs. So great of them

We will probably move out of Toronto when we go to buy- unless the market does the most serious crash it has ever seen...But the help will be so valuable. It will help us stay in a safe neighbourhood, and buy much sooner than we otherwise might have!

We are so lucky to have help from both FH's dad and my parents, but we are also chipping in ourselves

They sure are! My parents have added to our budget, which helps us a great deal. My in- laws are taking a different approach, and have offered to instead help us when the time comes to buy our first home. We are so grateful for all of the support we get!
