Are you getting married in your hometown?

Are you getting married in your hometown? Or did you choose a different wedding location?

What did you decide, and why?

    We are not getting married in our hometown. I've been in Winnipeg since I was a few years old, and he's born and raised in Winnipeg too. We wanted a small, destination type wedding but wanted to keep it in Canada so my parents would be able to come (they are older and have health issues), so we decided on Canmore. It turns out that my parents aren't able to come now, but I'm still happy we chose where we did!

    Sort of. We're getting married in Woodbridge (where I grew up), but technically my "hometown" is Toronto. His hometown is technically Winnipeg, but he moved to Ontario (Newmarket) when he was a small child. So we're getting married close to where we both grew up!

    Well yes and no, I was born in Calgary but moved to Ontario when I was like 8 and lived in London since then so I have lived here longer than there. We are getting married in London.

    Yep! We wanted to get married in our home church (where I was baptized too) so being home was important to us!

    I'm getting married in my hometown, which is 2 hours from my FH's hometown! It was easier for most of our family and friends this way.

    Nope.
    We got married about an hour from his hometown and where I grew up, I'm originally from England. We no longer live there we live in BC now but started planning the wedding in Ontario so decided to keep it there.

    We are getting married over 3500km from our hometowns on the other side of Canada. We decided to move here 3 years ago on a whim and have been in love ever since 😍

    My husband got married in his hometown of Ontario, whereas I did too though I'm Canadian after coming here in 89' September. It was a choice made for us being nearby and our kids (dogs) were left at the breeder for 2 days.

    Our wedding will be an hour away from my FH's hometown of London and the venue is right on Lake Huron, which my family has ties to. Plus it's a bit more affordable being further away from a bigger city.

    Our wedding is being held less than a ten minute drive from where we live. We can walk there in 20 minutes. We wanted a venue ideally in Toronto where we live for ease of visits and appointments while planning.

    We're getting married close to our hometowns - about 15 minutes outside of them to be exact!
    Why? Ummm multiple reasons:
    - It would've been to expensive for our guests to come to us for a wedding in the mountains;
    - Most of my FH's friends are already married, so finding a venue that hadn't already been "picked" before and still within our budget was tough;
    - We also wanted something that had a low max capacity for guests, so that we could keep our guest numbers down!

    Not technically hometown, but we’re getting married in the city we “grew up” in - my fiancé and I have both lived in calgary since we were 13-ish

    We chose a different location. Both our hometowns are only about 15-20 minutes away from the venue. We looked at venues in his hometown and where we currently live, but they were either out of our budget, or not what we were looking for

    We’re having the ceremony in his hometown and our reception is outside of where we both live by 30 minutes.

    There were no venues we liked in our area so we knew the reception would be elsewhere.

    We are getting married 45 min from our home town. We looked for a venue in our city but didn't find any that we loved.

    We will be getting married in Elma Manitoba so no, no matter how you look at where our home towns are - we are not getting married in any of the places. (I was born in Brandon, MB - he was born in Winnipeg MB, we live in Winnipeg MB.)

    The big deciding factor is the price! Weddings inside the city start at $30,000 and we have a budget of $20,000 that may end up closer to $25,000 so to add photographer, videographer, dress, cake, favours, etc. on top of $30,000 would be closer to $35,000 or $40,000.

    I am from a big city, Edmonton. We were looking at venues there, however we decided to stay closer to our home now. My fiance is from central alberta, and his family has a business. They do ULC fire monitoring and security installations and etc.. because they do all their own monitoring someone has to be there 24/7.

    They only have one employee that is not family.. so the further away from home we went, the more likely one immediate family member would have to miss the wedding. So we did not really have a choice. But I love our venue anyways and it was a steal of a deal.
