Are you contacting vendors or vice versa?

Ashley, on May 24, 2020 at 22:18 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

Hi ladies! my wedding is coming up SOOO fast in just over 60 days! we dont want to postpone but we are most likely going too. I want to have a small wedding if we are allowed but again we will see. Numbers in ontario took a spike over the last couple days so who knows. Anyways I just wanted to know are your vendors contacting you to postpone/cancel or are you contacting them first? I assume i should start with dates my venue is available and then work on the other vendors to see if they are available.

I had 4 of my vendors reach out to me about postponing and I had to reach out to one of them. All were very understanding and most knew I would postpone before I finally accepted it myself all held the date and blocked off an alternative until I made the final call. I am extremely happy with how they have all handled this and worked with me

We had a few vendors check in but since we're scheduled for December, we had to make most of the calls, including to our venue, for any postponement discussions. If the venue hasn't reached out yet (I'd be incredibly surprised considering how close you are), I echo others here that you need to be proactive about it.

This is a 2 way street of communication. Most of the time, we as clients make the call to vendors to keep in touch basis for updates.

Vendors would be busy with dates being moved from the previous to the next year. They may call you if they need to get information or ensure everything is on track and information is being sent according to their scheduled service timing to show up. You as a client can call to push the date for later once the venue does verify the date change and then other vendors can do the same for you.

There is a feeling of charges that some vendors may charge because of the difference for the year after. It is something to be aware of the amount and the cancellation policy if you go that path.

I contacted my vendors for both date switches. We were supposed to be May 23rd, contacted in March to postpone to August, had a small legal ceremony in April when we were able to get our marriage license and have recently further postponed to next April, our one year anniversary hoping things will be better by then 🤞🏼

I contacted everyone to postpone or change plans.

It would even be worthwhile to reach out to see how they will be handling socially distanced events if you plan to go forward with the wedding this year. That way you'll know if you need to supply hand sanitizer or anything.

I contacted all my vendors to postpone. They all assumed my wedding was happening until I told them it wasn’t.

My only piece of advice is if you are looking for a particular month to postpone to, especially during peak wedding season, I’d make the call sooner rather than later - we have to wait quite a long time to get married now because I waited so long to tell my venue to give us a new date. No regrets - I’m glad I waited but just wanted to throw that out there!

I contacted all my vendors mid March (my wedding was June though). But I was the one who had to reach out to them! I started with the venue and their available dates for next year, and then started cross matching with my other vendors until we found a date that works. We did lose one vendor and a small deposit, but we kept our most important vendors and that’s all that matters to us. Good lucks

My wedding was supposed to be August 8 but we've had to postpone. We contacted our vendors in April regarding the potential of postponing and what options we had and what dates were available. We started with our venue and went on from there. I'm super lucky that all my vendors and my venue have switched to our new date of August 7 2021.

I would suggest contacting asap since dates are filling up fast with other couples having to postpone and couples that were already looking at getting married in 2021
