Are wedding planners worth it?

Sabrina, on October 8, 2019 at 23:09 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 11
We have recently gotten engaged and we’re in the process of planning the wedding. We found a venue we love, and we’re trying to decide between that one and a destination wedding.

We have heard that wedding planners typically pay for themselves because they get discounts, etc on things for the wedding.

Is it worth it?

I'm hiring a Month of Coordination and Design wedding planner.

I knew, from working in the wedding industry and knowing myself, that I would not want to deal with all the little hiccups, set-backs, set-up for decor and managing vendors before my wedding. It was really important to me to have someone who would take that on full force and allow me to just get ready and enjoy our day with a little stress as possible.

My wedding planner also gets discounts with rentals and the videographer we wanted so that helps too.

I planned my wedding myself, but I would have loved to have a month-of or day-of planner. There's just so many little things that need your attention that would be better off handled by a paid professional.

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!! or at least a day of coordinator! on the day of you dont want to deal with anything ie late vendors, or vendors not putting things where theyre suppose too, people not being able to find the place etc, people asking dumb questions ahha. find a day of person and you can look at their discounts through their preferred vendors but i ended up making better deals than the people my coordinator provided me

I'm all for a wedding planner - we were going to have one and then kind of did (backed out but was still there and helped us a LOT). All depends on budget!!

If your budget allows one, then yes. It will take away all your stress the day of.

Our venue had a wedding coordinator who was there the day of to make sure all the vendors were in the right spots, and directed everyone, so thankfully for us we didn't have to hire one.

I did all the planning myself which I loved, but having someone the day of to direct questions to was a huge weight taken off

I agree. If your budget allows you and i don't want to look, search and think, go wit it. If your budget is tight, go with day of wedding coordinator. I found two amazing girls, they are students and work as event planners for day of. They will cost me much less, then what big company was asking me for day of. Dont forget...to your wedding expense is also all the people who works for you DJ, photographer, planners. To feed them. And since where we have wedding, you can not bring your own food. We pay for food what is offered by place where will be our wedding.

If I would have unlimited or very big budget I would choose excellent wedding planner.

Wedding planners are worth their time if your schedule is very busy with work. It also depends on how much your looking to get done too based on how many vendors will be coming to set up at the venue. The discounts are great from what they get to save you more. This option is also great to choose if you find your not fully organized.

On the other token, self organization is great on saving on the cost of wedding planner when all the information kept safe in a binder/folder and all vendor contracts/emails placed too. Sections created help to know what to look under the proper label.

Destination weddings resort help you out every way possible with a wedding coordinator that will oversee every aspect done with the vendors present to set up.

I think they are worth it depending on your situation. If you decide to do a destination wedding then they are definitely worth it. I am having a destination wedding in Mexico and my wedding planner started out as my travel agent booking all of our stay and wedding date, from there I could either begin the process on my own (ie talking to different vendors) or I could use her as a wedding planner where she would start to contact vendors on my behalf and deal with my guest list. Also I know for my planner, she had different packages to choose from depending on how much you wanted done and how much you want to spend. I'm so thankful I'm using her because she knows the vendors in Mexico and it's easier for her to look out for discounts or negotiate prices. Since destination weddings are relatively cheaper, I didn't mind paying the extra money for a planner. However if you go with the other venue, the costs might add up quicker and a planner could be breaking your budget. It all depends on you, if you're pretty organized you should be able to do it all without a planner, but I will say a planner definitely lessens the stress of planning.

Depends how good a planner and how organized you are. I just used the checklist on here and worked with my vendors and have had no issue, but I'm a planner - I love it so its not really work. Plus we have coordinators at the venue for day-of stuff so sticking with them.

I think they can be worth it, but it depends on how much you want to allocate in terms of your budget to a planner.

Planners with a lot of connections may be able to get some discounts but I've never heard of like huge discounts or anything like that.

In my experience, anyone I know whose gotten a planner got one so they're day ran smoothly. I only know one bride who got a planner to actually put their wedding together.

A planner wasn't in our budget and we're happy we don't have one; it's an extra cost and we'll have lots of people on site to help us that day with coordination.

Does your venue come with a coordinator? Our coordinator has been fantastic. We just met our day of maitre d as well and he's also fantastic - they take care of everything venue related.
