Anyone have a large amount of people cancel last minute?

Chris, on September 10, 2017 at 14:44 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4

I received notification from my travel agent that 4 have cancelled on Friday due to the Hurricane. Today 7 people texted me that they will now not go due to the Hurricane. My wedding is in 7 weeks the hurricane is this weekend.

I won't tell you how much I have spent but significant amount of money, wedding packages for each guests was sent out, excursions for all guests paid by us in full in advance for private group excursion, etc. Items bought for each guests who RSVP for both reception and ceremony. assigned seating, table centrepieces etc.

If 11 cancelled its almost 2 tables and what if more cancel?

What do you do?

At what point do you make all the last minute changes. Note each guests is getting a "passport" to a country and each table is a country we have travelled so there is a lot of work involved in organizing items.

Hey there Kris, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm surprised people didn't wait until after the hurricane to decide whether they are coming or not. If I were your guest I would have waited until I knew what damage had occurred as a result of the storm and then spoken to you to see if you were cancelling or making any changes.

You can always redo your seating chart to spread the rest of your guests out so you won't have to get rid of any of your centerpieces that are already made.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that the hurricane didn't damage anything and no one else cancels on you. Where is your wedding taking place?

I'm so sorry Kris, that's so hard to deal with!

Where are you getting married? If the country didn't suffer much damage, is it possible so of those recent cancels might turn back into yeses once they realize things are safe? Maybe you could send out some 'post hurricane' updates to your guests through your wedding website to ease people's fears!

I saved a lot of these little details until literally 1-2 weeks before the wedding (like printing personalized menus, doing the seating chart, making welcome bags) so that I was closest to the true headcount. But the trade-off is that I was suuuper busy with this stuff last minute!

That causes some anxiety for you!! I understand worrying about that, that's valid. Significant amount of ppl cancelling. Lots of anxious thoughts come flooding thru! Everything was planned and paid for revolving around that number of people.
Get back to your rational thinking and those thoughts of, at this point it really is only 4 and that's okay. People will still be there. It's really about the marriage. Make it the happiest day of your life and what u want to remember.
It's tough when ppl put extra stress on the bride!!

Hi Kris, This much be terribly disappointing. Seven weeks is a long time and lots can happen in that interval. You can do 2 things; contact the venue after the storm to find out the extent of the damage. If they still can do the wedding, let the people who cancelled know. The residents on these islands will clean up as quickly as possible. That's why I said 7 weeks is a long time. The other choice you have is to cancel the destination wedding (I know you'll lose the deposit) and have a small one up here. Most likely everyone will be able to attend that. So sorry you have to go through this.
