Any guidelines for what S/O's of wedding party should wear?

Hey Ladies, as some of you know, I'm one of my bridesmaid's bridesmaid in her wedding in June. I'm also a 1st time bridesmaid so I don't know the in and outs of the role too well!

My FH asked me the other night what should he wear to the wedding? And the only thing I thought is he shouldn't do is match the groomsmen (light blue shirts, tan pants, purple bow ties). Is there anything else to keep in mind? The bridesmaids are in blush long dresses so I was thinking of a green plaid to complement me with navy dress pants - the dress code is casual.

Some of my wedding party will also bring their SOs so I was thinking of telling them something similar: as long as your SO doesn't look like they belong in the bridal party, they can wear whatever they want (within reason of course lol)

    Yeah, I figured having him in a pattern (plaid) will definitely make sure he’s not mistaken for a groomsmen lol
    For ours the bridesmaids’ dresses will be long so any girlfriends of the wedding party will be ok with a short dress in a similar colour.

    I can see the complications here! You dont want other people to look like they're in your party but some couples love to match at these events so it can be hard! One of our groomsmens girlfriend asked me and I told her the colours we were doing and showed her the dress! She is going to get a colour similar to match her man but the dress style will be different and I'm 100% okay with that!

    If anyone in our wedding party asks what their S/Os should wear, we'll just tell them to not match the party. My FH always asks what he should wear when we go out and I do want him to complement me!

    I am just honestly letting them wear what they want! I imagine they would want to compliment your colours but not match too much to be mistaken. I know my bridesmaids will want photos throughout the night with their SO's.

    Exactly what you said is right! as long as they don't look like they are apart of wedding party this is all that matters and that they match the type of attire- casual or formal.

    You have it exactly - Don't match the wedding party, follow the dress code set out (casual) and you're good to go.

    I think you're in the clear as long as he doesn't match the GM like you said. As for what he should wear, I would normally have said a tie that matches your dress... but with a casual wedding people don't tend to wear ties... so I think you've got a pretty good idea already of the green to complement you. Do send pics when you get them!!
