Ama: I was a manager at David’s Bridal for 5 years, ask me anything!

Taking a page from Reddit’s book. I worked as a customer service rep and then got promoted to operations manager at David’s Bridal. Ask away!

It got intense. She talked about how monetizing love is unethical and not humane. How all our employees were satan followers. And when one of the other managers came over to give me a hand this MOB said “oh girls manager is just a title you are nothing in this world”

Honestly not really ... one time i did have a mother of the bride coming to pickup her daughters dress from alterations. I could find her anywhere in the system, couldn’t find and record of anything. MOB starts screaming we lost her dress. She said “she stood right there when she purchased it and she was crying with happiness and you guys told her you’d take care of her - you are demons who just want to take our money”. She then started shoving her phone in my face with a picture of her daughter in the dress she bought ......from another store .... with ORANGE walls and a huge “life laugh love” decal. Our store is completely cream coloured with no graphics on the walls. Eventually got her to calm down and call her daughter. Daughter told her “yeah mom we did go to David’s but I bought my dress at X place” then mom then kinda half assed apologies and says “this wedding is stressing me out you can’t blame me, I also read bad reviews about David’s so it’s totally something you guys would do” and she threw the mother of the groom under the buss saying she useless. Kinda crazy.

Okay so there used to be a tiered system to quote alterations prices. It was standard, difficult, and couture. The seamstresses would use their expertise to quote. Now all pricing is on an iPad directory specific to each dress and pricing set by head-office.

Average bridal ticket when i was there was 300 but honestly I’d say always budget for 400-600 and average bridesmaid ticket was 180/200. Bridal hems start at 191, taking in or letting out sides is 90. Adding in bra cups is 24 / or 48 for a double cup. Bustle pricing start at 170 for a 3 point. There are rush fees for work needing to be complete with quick turn around. They changed pricing for that as in was leaving .... between 20-70 depending on has fast you need it. Otherwise normal alterations process is started about 3 months prior, bring your exact shoes and undergarments to your appointment!
