Affordable and practical bridesmaid dresses?

Joy, on March 18, 2023 at 23:26 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 10

I'm looking at what places sell bridesmaid dresses in my area, and so far all I've seen are David's Bridal, and Sorella Vita for brands. I was looking at a few online too, but they're often really expensive, or look really hard to wear, with lots of odd straps, or shapes that wouldn't look good on anyone I know. Are there any websites worth checking out? I want to have a few options, bonus points if they have floral designs.

The backup plan is that all of us sew, so we could make something, skirts usually take me about 3 hours so with teamwork, it wouldn't take long, but I don't know if everyone would go for that idea, and I'd like to look at my options first.

Ideally I'd like a medium purple (currently DB Wisteria is the best I've seen), and we're going for semi-formal garden party attire, so I think a floral print or lace might be fun. I'll be wearing a floral lace so it would be nice to have something to tie into the theme that isn't just plain chiffon that you'll only wear once.

Also, who pays for the dresses? My mom said that she bought dresses for her sisters when she got married, and she thought that would be my job, but a lot of things I've seen say otherwise. Would it be worth looking at the more expensive dresses and going half and half on it, or should the dress be the thank you gift?

Azazie has a try on program as long as you don't use custom sizing. And you can choose a specific colour swatch that will show you different dresses in that colour. That's what my wife did with her bridesmaids.

As for you vs them paying, it would be a nice gesture if you paid but not necessary. It's an unwritten rule that agreeing to be part of a bridal party means to incur some costs. But as they are doing this favour to you, it would be appreciated if you can allow them to give input on what to wear. We simply told our team to wear a certain colour and they had free reign to choose a style of dress that was within their individual budgets and something that matched their level of modesty.

We went to David's Bridal, they have so many styles and materials to choose from. Sign up for their emails, they have regular sales on all of the dresses and accessories they sell.

Our kids aged 15-24 are our wedding party, I paid for their dresses (between $125-145 each) and will also do the same for the boys. My MOH is a dear, dear friend and it seemed rude to pay for some and not others so I paid for all of the dresses but alterations are their responsibility

Azazie does have an at home try on program! One of my bridesmaids used it and found it really helpful!

Different body shapes can be tricky, might be best to go in person to avoid the hassle of possibly returning, etc. We bought this dress for her (11 years old) and honestly, the quality was very good, I would have returned otherwise. Affordable and practical bridesmaid dresses? 1

There are some nice ones on Azazie, but I always worry about the lack of trying things on. I'll definitely keep that in mind as an option if everyone likes that idea better.

The main challenge with other sites mentioned is that everyone is a different body shape, so finding one matching item that fits everyone sounds difficult. With places like Azazie and David's Bridal, you can get the same colour in different styles so everyone can find something that works for them.

My bridesmaids got their dresses from azazie. They were all very happy with their dresses. Azazie also offers free custom sizing so that helps save costs on alterations!

Personally. For the quality and price point, David’s Bridal was the option we decided to go.

We just bought ours yesterday and WE LOVE THEM. The quality is perfect and they are having a huge sale so it was cheaper than I anticipated!

I’ve heard a lot about some of the online websites and apparently they are not the best quality.

I second JJ house, also check Azazie.
If you can pay for them, it’s a nice gesture. I also think if they’re on the higher price end, the nice thing to do would be to pay for it or half of it. Otherwise in most western traditions I haven’t heard of it to be expected.

Hi Joy, I would check out Lulus and JJ House. We got my stepdaughters from JJ and it worked out great. Lulus has such a variety as well, I'm sure you can find something.
I dont think there is any written rule on who pays, if you can and do not have a large bridal party, it's a nice gesture to take care of it, or treat them to their hair and make up, is an option as well.
