a little more sparkle can never hurt a bride!

Katie, on December 12, 2019 at 23:11 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 7

Hi ladies, I have a little dilemma and I really need some advice!
I picked up my wedding dress tonight and I am so happy, except for one thing... I always imagined dress to be sparkly
Anyways, I am wondering if any of you brides and brides to be, have added glitter via a spray can or any other method, to your tulle dresses. I just want to give it that pop of sparkle in the light. I will be taking my dress to an alterationist, but I have a feeling I cannot afford to have some sparkly tulle added to the skirt, also my wedding is in 50 days, so were a little short for time...I would love some input from you guys and maybe even other solutions? Thank you 😘

I'd also be careful when spraying if the bodice of the dress is a different fabric than the skirt (tulle vs. satin, etc) because some fabrics do not take well to sprays and are far less forgiving about things. There are ones that are liquid based vs. aerosol propelled, which can effect how it sticks and the fabrics it is recommend for. (Speaking from years of cosplay experience and mistakes! LOL)

I'd either thoroughly and tightly cover the top if this is the case or do a test swatch for both fabrics. You don't want one fabric to look great and the other get damaged in the process.

Get a piece of fabric from the store thats the same material as your dress and try spraying it on. i dont see why that wouldnt work!

I saw them at the bridal show in st.catharines... I want to say it was a dress that second dance bridal had in their show. I'd call them and see if they know where to find them

I have not! That may very well be a great idea since my dress is sleeveless! Any ideas where to look?

    Thank you Smiley smile

Have you seen the elbow length gloves that sparkle? Oh my goodness they are gorgeous. They may give you the extra sparkle without possibly harming your dress.

Thank you Amelia! A patch test is a great idea. Also getting it priced out at my alterationist is a good idea. I definitely will, but when I asked the sales lady at the store I purchased my gow at, she said it would cost upwards of $500 and that is a bit crazy and freaked me out a bit... The bodess of my gown is covered in beads and jewels and is very sparkly, I just love the look of sparkly tulle and want something extra on the skirt... ending the day covered in sparkles sounds good to me lol Smiley winking !!

I would be cautious only because if you spray glitter on your dress and hate it it's too close to fix it.

Maybe buy some tulle and do a test run to see how hard it is to apply and how well it stays on. The last thing you want is to start the day sparkly and end with everyone and everything else covered in glitter.
Maybe ask your seamstress what it would cost. Or see if they have other suggestions like a glitzy belt, rhinestones scattered over the skirt, or the sparkle tulle might be closer to the budget.
