2nd-hand dress stores

Marci, on November 13, 2016 at 18:28 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 9

Hello,

I'm looking at the possibility of going second-hand for my dress. Any tips, etc on stores or where to look?

Thanks!

There is also EBay... Not sure if you have value village but a friend of mine told me the dresses going through that store are unreal, and u can really luck out if you go often enough... You can also Google bridal consignment or wedding dress sample sale for the closest city to you, there may be a few brick and mortar second hand stores... If you do buy on line it's a good idea to try on dresses for style and fit at a traditional bridal store.

Thank you, Emilie. I am not 100% sure yet so was thinking I would go try on some to get an idea. That being said, I do know I would like something simple, mostly likely with sleeves of some sort. Smiley smile

    1. Know your measurements and then buy up in size and length.
Because trying on a specific dress is more challenging when shopping pre-owned, make sure you know your key measurements. This includes: bust, waist, hip, and height with and without shoes. Getting the right fit can be tricker since the previous bride already tailored it to her body, so I would recommend buying up in size and then having a seamstress take in the gown at the right places for a custom fit.

    2. Look for defects.
The most common areas to look for wear and tear are at the hemline and near the top area of the bust line and underarm area.Often brides can hem off any remaining dirt on the hemline, or the dirt is concealed under the dress and not visible when worn. But if you are looking at a gown that is close to your height or doesn't allow for additional hemming, make sure the questionable area isn't substantial. If a gown has any major rips, tears or staining outside of these areas, I would recommend rethinking purchasing it.
