2 different marriages

Paula, on September 26, 2021 at 23:55 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 17
Hello!

Me and my husband eloped here in BC, but we now will have a family wedding in Alberta. We are already legally married in BC, do we have to get an Alberta marriage license? Even if we don’t need to, can we do that?

    You’re welcome!
Oh he should be very okay with that. A lot of officiant does vows renewal! Yes, speak with him on how the ceremony plan will be!

It would have no signing. Usually people do a vow renewal on anniversaries but you can do it any time.

Rayanne, does that include signing the paper? Or just like doing the whole ceremony without the paper part?

Your married and got your marriage license signed at the time of the wedding. You don't need to have another one since your going to wait 3 months for the actual certificate. You can have someone take the place of the Officiant role and have the same service repeated. No one will know the individual isn't certified.

Thanks. I don’t know if he’s ok. If that acceptable in a Christian eyes. I’ll have to talk to him. I mean he knows I’m legally married

He should still be able to conduct the ceremony without paper signing! He would be able to walk you through your process for the ceremony!

Thanks. So That mean my pastor can’t married me? Or he will only have to do the ceremony without having to sign the papers.

    Hello Daily,
As far as I am know, since you’re already married you do not need to sign another wedding certificate.

Hi Tunisha, so if I’m legally married in the state, what if we renew our vows? So that mean I’ll need to sign the papers again?

If you're already legally married, you can't get legally married again. You can still have a ceremony for your family in Alberta, but it will just be for show.

    Hello Paula,
    Since you’re legally married already.
You can do the ceremony part again (without the signing) or just have a reception party for the guests in Alberta!

If you're legally married, you cannot get legally married again. The government literally won't issue you another license because it's moot. If you want to re-do the ceremony, it would be just for show and not for any legal reasons.
