zoom Wedding in the Woods- But how?

Amanda, on June 2, 2020 at 17:26 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 8
I'm hoping someone is more tech savvy than I am and can answer my question.

We are getting married in a month exactly and it doesn't look like restrictions will be lifting here in Ontario anytime soon unfortunately. We have been trying to think up ways our parents especially could still see us get married since the current limit on gatherings is five. We discussed getting married on our front yard but we really want to get married where we had planned which is in the woods at a conservation area where we always go walking. The problem is the cell service SUCKS! I tried to google if there's a way to get better cell service and I read a booster helps but that seems to be something you plug into your wall in the house.
Is there another way we could boost cell service so we could set up a tripod to record our ceremony or are we out of luck?

If theres no internet connection there isnt much to do. what you can do is record your ceremony and then send it to your parents or maybe stand closer where there is cell phone reception?

The route of 2 recordings sounds better than doing zoom without any internet connection. The amount isn't bad since its small and private.

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions! After talking it over and weighing the pros and cons plus cost and uncertainties of each option we have actually decided to do two ceremonies; our legal one in the woods which our videographer will capture and a second one on our front lawn where our parents can watch from their cars. The cost for our officiant to do a second ceremony was only $75 which came in cheaper than a turbo stick and this way we dont have to worry about it maybe not working.

We plan to have a small one year celebration next year where we can show the video from our videographer to our extended family and friends that cant come because of gathering restrictions. Plus we get to have a send off for our real honeymoon which has been postponed until next year because of COVID-19 😊

Hank is right. From what I know there is a speed stick you get from your provider (bell, rogers).. you plug it into your laptop and it automatically connects you to the internet. You're connected only through the speed stick. Honestly, not sure about price but it would be so worth it for you.

You could try an internet speed stick (Bell's are called Turbo Sticks and Rogers Rocket Sticks). They're installed and plugged into a laptops USB port and enables them to act as wireless internet hubs.

They're pretty pricey though, over $100 per piece and you have to get a data plan on top of that. And the thing is, Rogers and Bell tend to hold back upload bandwidth in favour of faster download speeds for all users so who knows if the Zoom video chat will hold up. Canada's telecommunication costs really suck compared to the rest of the world.

If having it live is not a super priority, I would go with Sam's suggestion of uploading the video later to a site of your choice. The plus side to this is, you can use a proper good camera with mics and all that fancy stuff to make the video consistently high quality.

You could ask those who would be there if their Reception is better with their provider. You could also combine ideas with Sam and have it recorded in case the livestream fails.

Maybe you could record it and send/post it later when you are back on a stronger connection? It wouldn't be live, but would still let people take part in your wedding day!
