Your bucket list for your first year of marriage

Joey, on October 3, 2018 at 08:05 Posted in Just married 0 21

Sure, planning the wedding is important, but there is so much to look forward to after you say "I do". What do you have planned for after your wedding? Moving in together? Setting up your home? Adopting a pet? Growing your family? Changing your last name? Hosting holidays together?

What special milestones will be part of your first year of marriage?

We already live/own a home together, have a puppy and have no intention of ever having children, so TBH getting married isn't really going to change anything about our daily life together. The only difference is that we will call each other husband and wife, and we'll make the lifelong commitment to one another in the presence of our family and friends. It's more a formality than anything else.

In our first year of marriage, we are looking forward to just settling into life and being able to enjoy it and slow down for a bit. In our 3.5 years together so far we have moved in together, bought a house together, gotten a dog, gotten engaged, he's switched jobs, I'm just finishing off a Cont'Ed certificate, and we just completed a huge yard renovation project.

In the 2+ years between now and our wedding, we have two weddings to attend next summer (close friends and my brother) back to back, one of which involves a week of travel (DW) and the other which involves having my entire side of the family in town from another province for 1-2 weeks (we literally fly back from the DW the day before my bro's wedding and have my other brother and SIL and their four kids staying with us for 1-2 weeks), plus our own wedding to plan (thankfully a DW so once we pick a venue we can be pretty uninvolved for a while).

So yeah... we aren't making big plans for our first year of marriage - we just want to chiiiiiiiiiiill!

I honestly have no milestones for us! I'll still be in school, we won't be buying a house, having a child, or don't paying off our car! We'll be able to start actively saving for a down payment for a house, so that's something!

We'll both be done school by the time we get married, but we've both considered further education (for her, a certificate from the Canadian Museum Association and law school for me). Basically I've been looking at the first 5 years since the first year might still be up in the air. By year 5, I'd like us to have our own place and stable work. If we could get a dog, that'd be great. The ultimate sign of stability!

We get married in 10 days and we just bought a house which closes at the end of the month, we currently live together and have a dog. I think for sure we are excited to own a home together! Down the road we will get a dog. We are doing a mini moon and will be planning a honeymoon for next year. Kids won’t be on the raider for a few years! Just want to enjoy spending time as a married couple and hosting holidays.

We already live together, so changing my last name will be number one on the bucket list. Next on the list is babies! We both want a family right away, and hopefully that happens within the first year! (Fingers crossed)

I will be changing my name and we will be saving for a house! Likely in the first year we will not be able to finalize that. But hopefully at two years married!

We already live together, we adopted our fur baby last year, and I (we) are hosting 2 Thanksgiving dinners this weekend... Haha.
I will be changing my name, and our wedding just happens to follow my FH finishing a Personal Training Diploma, so back to dual income household soon, and hopefully save to buy our first home. We want to travel/live as a married couple for a while before having kids.... maybe 5 or 6 years.

One thing for sure on our list is sell our current 1 bedroom house and move into something roomier. My FH bought the house just before we started dating, so he wasn't thinking about having a wife and kids in that house.

Also, changing both our last names is on the list! It'll be more work to change both our names completely, so we'll probably be starting that soon after the honeymoon.

Since we need more space before expanding our family, we'll gonna likely put that off for a year or two. We'll definitely talk about when we want to start trying to have kids within the first year though!

Definitely changing my last name! We own a house, have 4 kids and we even have a dog. Lol. So I think the only thing that will change is my name. Haha. Once the wedding is done we are going to focus on building a home, so that will be something exciting to look forward to as well.

We live together and filed his immigration papers instead of getting an engagement ring.

I most look forward to getting settled into a two-income household, growing our family(maternity leave!), and being able to create a solid 5 year plan.

Also on the list - changing my name, and upgrading our home space.

Well we already bought a house this year (which is why we aren't getting married this year - too much $$&dollarSmiley winking, and we just adopted a kitten and puppy last month.

Next up is to start a human family though! lol As soon as the wedding and/or honeymoon is over it's fair game!

As well we both will be changing our last names. Right now my FH has his mothers maiden name as he was born out of wedlock but he is going to be changing it to his fathers last name this year and then when we get married next year I will change my last name to his new one Smiley smile It's like we will both be starting a new chapter with new names.

One of the things that I look most forward to is the fact that I will be able to change my name at work Smiley smile I can get used to being called Tori Anne Doll as my entire name (Anne is my middle name). (And yes - we would love to name our non-existent children Chucky, Ken, Barbie, Annabelle or something like that Smiley tongue)
