Wooden Guest Board

Jaime, on November 25, 2019 at 14:56 Posted in DIY 0 4
Hello!

Has anyone used a wooden guest board and sealed it yourself? I’m starting to panic a little! We had a beautiful piece of live edge wood burned for our wedding and now I’m not sure if I should be sealing it first or after people sign it.Also, what kind of pen/marker should I be using and what kind of sealant? Our wedding is December 7th so I need to figure this out ASAP! TIAWooden Guest Board 1

Hey Jamie! I would recommend sealing the wood after to ensure that all of your guest's messages stay perfect throughout the years.

As for the type of marker that you use, I would definitely recommend using a fine tip Sharpie but if you had an excess piece of wood that you could test it out on, that would be ideal! This will ensure that the ink doesn't bleed on the wood.

Do you have a smaller piece of wood you can try writing on it with different pens with? do that and then i would have people sign it then get it sealed somewhere

I agree with Tori, a fine tip marker is your best bet. Paint pens can be messy and hard for guests to figure out in the moment and pens can dent the wood.

I would recommend having some alcohol wipes near the board in case guests get ink on their fingers. Alcohol erases sharpie!

Seal it after people have signed it - and I would use epoxy to seal it. As for what to use to sign it - I would suggest a fine tip marker. Pens tend to make a dent on wood that is too soft and markers are going to get too big. (Just what I would suggest - maybe test a couple ways on a different piece of wood?)
