Wine for dinner help!

Caitlin, on July 31, 2019 at 10:38 Posted in Wedding reception 0 13
How much wine is needed to serve at the table for dinner? I need to buy wine for dinner, but the rest of the night the venue takes care of the alcohol.
When I search online most alcohol calculators are for the entire wedding reception. Once dinner is over, I cannot serve the wine I bought anymore.
Thanks you in advance!

Considering that most people do not understand wine, I would advise you to choose one kind of red wine and put 2 bottles on one table. White wine is not popular and is rarely suitable for dinner, as it is offered for dessert or light snacks. When I arranged a bachelorette party following the tips from https://bachelorettepartyhelp.com /?qb-b=tips-for-hosting-a-diy-wine-tasting-bachelorette , I bought both white and red wine. However, 1 or 2 glasses of delicious red wine per person will be enough during dinner. I hope that I was able to help. Good luck!

I think 2 bottles per table is normal. one white and one red. that table would have 8-10 people sitting at it. so 2 bottles for every 10 people.

I agree with all the other ladies in that 2 bottles per table, one white and one red is good and like Amanda said tables will share/swap wine if needed. If after dinner you can't serve that wine anymore what are you going to do with opened bottles of wine that the caps/corks might be missing.

1 bottle red and 1 bottle white per table is fine.

My venue coordinator suggested to estimate 1/2 btl per person over the course of dinner (essentially 2 glasses on average). I would split it half and half between red and white.

I personally think 2 bottles is plenty. I would still do 1 white and 1 red. I have been to weddings where the table wine ran out but another table didn't want theirs so everyone shared. People have all the oppurtunity to drink after dinner, table wine is usually expected and more than fair... If they want someone else, or go through all the wine supplied they can wait until the bar reopens.

Agreed - the wine put on the tables are mostly meant as something for toasts so that the guests don't HAVE to go pay for their own drinks until after supper.

I will say that at my FH's cousin's wedding they had open bar open right after the ceremony so not all of the wine on the table was drank because we went for vodka/gin/rum etc. instead of wine.

This is what I found from an article online:

White and Red Wine: People tend to drink white wine if it’s an outdoor wedding held during the day in the summer, and more red if it’s at night and steak is being served. Most people consume the same amount of white and red wine, and you can presume that each of your guests will drink one glass of wine per hour. Each 750ml bottle has five glasses, so for 100 guests and a four-hour wedding reception, you would need 400 glasses—or 80 bottles of wine (40 white and 40 red), which is a little more than 6 cases of wine.

So dinner is usually about 1.5-2 hours, so just divide by two and you need 40 bottles (20 white and 20 reds) for 100 people.

    Hope this helpsSmiley smile

Try to see what your families drink the most. My cousin did this at his wedding, and they had 1 bottle of red and 1 one white on our table, and there were 10 people. We crushed the bottle of red because no one at the table was a white wine drinker. When they didn't bring out more, we all just drank the white.

Keep in mind you can get 6 glasses of wine out of one bottle if they are standard size.

I would plan for a bottle of red and a white at each table. How many people are sitting at a table?

I think you can get away with 2 bottles, people don't need to be getting hammered during dinner.
