Where to go

Kirsten, on March 28, 2019 at 08:44 Posted in Honeymoon 0 6
So I'm at a standstill on planning till I see my venue so I thought about thinking about where we want to go for our honeymoon. Do to our wedding being in the middle of the fall semester for me we are doing our honeymoon either between semesters or after the year is over. We were thinking mexico originally but part of me doesn't want to go because we are going to Cabo for my friends wedding the July before our wedding. I really like the idea of going to the Maldives though. I like the idea of the private bungalows.

We were looking at the Maldives as well, love the bungalows on the water! We ultimately are doing a "mini-moon" to Dominican in December (our wedding is in May) and then doing our big honeymoon the following April. We want to do Ireland for our honeymoon but heard that the best time to go is April-May so we are going to do it closer to the 1 year anniversary mark and do something small in December.

That's an awesome idea! It's definitely a destination that's on my bucket list!!!

Be sure to do LOTS of research about your resort and the activities you want to do. A colleague went there for her honeymoon. I learned so much about that country while she was planning her honeymoon, it was fascinating!

For example, did you know that the Maldives is a primarily Muslim country? This means that drinking in public and wearing swimsuits is prohibited in certain areas.

My colleague found out, a couple of weeks before leaving, that they were going during Ramadan, so she had to contact her hotel/resort to make sure they'd be serving food for people who weren't fasting.

Here's a great article on planning a trip to the Maldives: https://mylifesamovie.com/plan-trip-maldives-budget/

I would totally look into the Maldives! We're not doing it for our honeymoon but it's on my bucket list for someday.

Hey Kirsten, I totally understand how you feel having to plan your wedding between semesters (I had to put my studies on break for 2 semesters because I just needed the break and to focus on the wedding)! Where were you thinking of going in Mexico for your honeymoon? I've been to Cancun once (when FH proposed), and we stayed at a resort called Breathless. It was literally the nicest place I've ever been to in my life; just amazing and a true 5-star resort. I would definitely go back.

As for Maldives, I've never been, but if it's some place you really want to go to and are capable of going to, then I say do it! It's a once-in-a-lifetime trip and you should make the most of it Smiley smile

My FH and I figured this is once in a lifetime so we wanted to go all out for our honeymoon. We’re going to places we haven’t been before; St. Lucia and Grenada.

go somewhere you guys really want to go! The Maldives looks absolutely amazing!

I think it depends how long you will be there for your friends wedding. If you are making a trip out of it and doing some excursions even - then I would skip it for your honeymoon (unless you really loved it), but if it's just for the wedding and then back home I think it's worth possibly going back!
