When to take engagement photos?

Up to you! Totally depends on what you want. We got engaged november 2016. Had our photos done september 2017. Wedding july 2018. We booked pur photographer in august and then tried to still cache in on summer weather for photos. Turns out they have the most beautiful fall colours and im so happy with them!
A lot of people use engagement photos for save the dates... So in that case you would want them done earlier than later.

We just did our photos last week and we are getting married 7 months from now.

Things to think of: do you want a specific time of year? will you use the pictures for your save the dates and/or invites? These kinds of questions might help you decide on timing, but it’s completely up to you when you want to so them.

I think wait until you feel its right. We got engaged June 29th and our engagement photo shoot is this Sunday as I wanted Fall Photos as well. The wedding isn't until August 2018 but we will be incorporating potentially these photos into our wedding invitations and skipping the save the dates as we are sending the invitations 4 months early instead of 2 as we have a lot of people on our stand by list. Big family and a lot of close friends and have a guest list of 250 people. So printing roughly 250 invitations ish.

We got engaged June 30th of this year. Our wedding is September 2018, next year and we just did our engagement photos 2 weeks ago. I wanted a fall theme and I want to incorporate one of the photos to use for our save the date cards

We did our engagement photos in August and don't get married until next June. When we got the proofs back we took one of the pictures we really liked and used it for our save the dates.

We got engaged in November 2016 and still haven't done them. Planning for Spring 2018 so we have them as a slide show for our wedding (part of our photographer package so only reason why we are doing)

We wanted to use our pictures for the save the dates.. so:

You have tons of time to get your pics done anyways

We were engaged for 2.5 years and we did our engagement photos a year and a half before the wedding.

It honestly doesn't really matter when you want to.

We got ours done about a year before!

It's totally up to you! We got engaged November 2016 and got our photos done in December 2016. The wedding was in August 2017 and we did the engagement photos when we did because my husband and I were going to be apart for most of the time between then and the wedding. We met in England but my visa expired so I was home for the wedding planning and he was there for work.

I would say it also depends on the season you want the photos in. We thought it worked out nicely because we had winter engagement pictures and summer wedding photos. A very nice contrast.

We got ours done about a month and a half before the wedding. It was the first and only time we were all available. But they turned out great. We're show casing them on our tables so it's perfect timing for us.

We got engaged in December and did our photos in March. I think you can do them whenever you'd like. As people have said though if you want to use them for invitations or save the dates sooner is better.

We're getting married this weekend but we waited until June to do our photos. The wheat in our area is at it's most beautiful at that time and we wanted to do part of our session in a wheat field, so that's why we waited. Otherwise I would have loved to do a fall or winter session!

You can take your engagement pictures whenever you want!

The only time "restriction" is if you want to use an engagement picture for your save the date, in which case you'll want to schedule your engagement session early enough to get your pictures back and order save the dates

We had a non-photo save the date, and just took or engagement pictures for fun and to get to know our photographer - so we had our session 3 months before the wedding based on our availability!

Our wedding inst till September 2019, but we want fall photos as well and found a wicked fall session deal for this year.

We got engaged last October (2016), our wedding is August of next year(2018), and we are getting our pictures done next week. So we waited 11 months to get them done, and we are doing them 11 months before our wedding.

We got engaged September 14th 2017 & getting married October 2018, so we're thinking about doing the photos next month to match the fall theme of the wedding. ☺

My future sister in law is a photographer and she said that she usually shoots a couples engagement photos when they book her for their wedding photos. ( a lot of people have the same photographer for both.)

So when ever you book your wedding photographer talk to them about taking your engagement pics as well!

We had our Engagement photos done in June 2017 and our wedding is going to be March 2018. You can choose whenever you would like to get your engagement photos done. We also chose ours around the season, summer engagement and winter wedding.
