When do you think is the best time to serve the cake?

Shannon, on February 13, 2020 at 20:30 Posted in Wedding reception 0 15

When do you think is a good time to serve the cake? Serve as a dessert or later in the evening.
If I serve later in the evening, will people even want cake once they start drinking? And I love the dessert menu my venue has and would like to include it. But now I'm not sure.

I love the dessert option at our venue but for more cost effective we opted to go with our wedding cake as dessert.

People always want cake when they're drinking. Or maybe that's just me hahahahaha.

I think we're going to wait an hour after dinner.

I do like the idea of being served on the dessert table so that guests can help themselves to a piece. Evenly cut slices served on plates makes it easy to take. The wedding coordinator can helpful to guide you in how you would like to go about the serving of cake.

We had the venue offer cut and serve with our chosen dessert plated to each guest. There was an alternative dessert of assorted pastries also served to those not getting cake.

My cousin had 2 desserts of which cake was cut and served on plates at the dessert table.

We decided to have a 6 inch cutting cake for us and mini cupcakes for our guests to be served when dessert is after dinner. We'll probably cut just after speeches then first dance about 20 minutes later.

Our venue included dessert as part of our package, so we opted for a smaller wedding cake and we were just going to serve it to the family.

By the time the meal was done, people barely ate dessert, and we ended up saving our cake for the next day to have with our families.

I think the best thing to do, stick to the dessert thats included, then get a smaller wedding cake just for pictures, and then you can keep the cake for yourselves!

I second this! If you love the dessert options at your venue then just make your wedding cake a single tier or two - saves money!

For my wedding we ended up having a Korovai and gave the guests desserts from our catering and they ate them up FAST!

Most venues charge you to serve individual pieces of your cake on a plate to every guest. Since you're serving the venue's dessert, ask if they would be willing to put a piece of cake on the same plate. That way it can be served during dessert time.

Most weddings I've attended served cake on the late night sweet table. It will very likely not be touched by too many people. In the last ten weddings I've been to, I ate cake once.

Best time for people to actually eat it - as dessert at dinner. But if dessert menu is awesome at venue I would downsize cake and have it self serve with dessert and still available for late night but cut it during dinner with the usual speeches and stuff so people know it’s available.

My friend cut the cake as soon as they got introduced! They serve it later in the night but everyone was able to see them cut it. It was different but I thought it was a smart idea

I read somewhere that cutting the cake was once a symbol that nothing else big was happening. No special dances, toasts, or whatever would happen after that. I think this is a silly tradition.

Personally I want to cut it earlier so that people will feel free to grab a cupcake and won't have to wait too long, and hopefully before too many people have grabbed cupcakes without waiting so the photos still look good! I'm aiming for after speeches but maybe before the first dance so we don't repeatedly interrupt the dancing.
