What to ask a Venue

Emily, on January 16, 2020 at 09:50 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 6
We're going to look at venues this weekend! I'm so excited!

I have no idea what to ask a venue what are things I should be looking for. Any suggestions?

Look around and see if you like the space, check photos online and see how it looks all decorated. but ask them whats included ie bar, food, dessert, late night food, set up and tear down, day of coordinator, food tasting, any backdrop or decor, also ask if there any plug in fee or soho fee as well or clean up fee

    So exciting!
I would ask about What you can and can't bring in. I found that this lead me to other questions. (Like using their bartender, is there an hourly rate or a minimum bar sale?)
What time you have access to the venue and what time you need to be out by. And if there are charges if you stay late.
If they have any preferred partners like DJs or florists. Sometimes that can get great deals that way.

I would inquire about packages available and pricing that goes with it. You would want to know if the reception hall and wedding ceremony of choice is included or extra charge. Bar options of cash vs. open, and food served buffet vs. plated depending on the pricing per person. Guest count is also important to inform the planner to know how much per person in whole and base it so you can budget towards your goal amount set.

The budget for the whole wedding subtract the venue will allow you to know if is the place you both like and wanting to go over budget or seek other venues that will work in your favour.

Ask how many weddings the venue usually hosts in one day. Before touring venues, I had no idea that lots often have multiple in a day, which I wasn't keen on.

If you're wanting an outdoor ceremony, then definitely ask if there's an indoor space or contingency plan that you could move to if weather isn't cooperating. Ask about their policy on on-site catering as well as outside food/alcohol/cake and if there are cake cutting/corkage fees. How many people can be accommodated. Do they have rental fees. Is there a space where you, FH, and your entourage can get ready. Cancellation policy. Price differences based on time of year/day of the week. Those are the main things off the top of my head.

Also, just take in the whole space and really try to step back and see how it will work with your vision. FH and I went to one venue, and the ceremony space was gorgeous but you had to walk through the on-site gym to get there! So I was just like nooooope lol plus the dance space had a wall between it and the dining part and I didn't want people to feel closed off from one part to the next, so another big nope.
