How to Approach Your Wedding Menu Tasting Like a Foodie

A tasting should provide you an idea of the menu and service that you'll receive on the day of the function. In addition to tasting a variety of dishes that you will choose from to finalize your menu, you should get an idea of how it's being served to you at the table (does someone need to pepper your dish with a grinder upon serving, does it require any special service ie the flaming cheese at Greek restaurants, etc).

We met with two different catering companies. At each of them they gave us a sampling of the most popular menu options. We didn't get to try everything they offer, but it gave us a good idea of the quality of the food and we liked some of the options they gave us that we initially weren't interested in just by looking at the menu.

I would definitely go through any sample menus you've been given and think about whether you have any questions to ask beforehand.

If they are part of the venue I assume the logistics are mostly taken care of, but if they're an independent caterer I'd also make sure to ask about whether they provide things like linens, dinnerware, glasses, etc. They will also want to know about the overall timeline of the event. You don't need every detail nailed down but a general idea is helpful.
