What choices are you giving your guests for meals?

Hank, on June 2, 2021 at 21:51 Posted in Wedding reception 0 21

Anyone offering more than just the typical beef, chicken, vegetarian as choices for your guests? Our venue offers options like lamb, fish, and other seafood and it's definitely something we're considering. Especially considering how we have a smaller guest list (25 vs our original 250) and less likely to have picky eaters, I think this is a way to be a bit more adventurous with our wedding menu.

Pork is one of the most underrated meats outside of bacon and sausage.

Hmm those both sounds really good! It might be because we're going out for Indian tonight and it's pretty much what I'm planning to order haha but I would probably go for the curried cauliflower and paneer.

Ours would've been a buffet so there was going to be a beef, fish, and a few veggie main dishes. I can't remember exactly but for the veggie I believe we were going to have coconut curried vegetables, tortellini or pierogi (I don't think we had decided which), and an Indonesian rice dish. And then a bunch of sides that were all vegetarian or vegan as well. Because I'm vegetarian and quite a few of our guests are vegan/vegetarian/pescatarian or don't do dairy I wanted to have a lot of veggie and vegan options available.

Our venue had an insane number of options, I suppose because they don't allow guests to make their own selection. They had different grades and price points for chicken, beef, lamb, seafood (fish, lobster, shrimp, crab), breads, salad, soup, and dessert. They also had about 100 different late-night food station/cocktail hour food station options! I had a very hard time deciding!

We (we is not my husband... he was already committed to a curling bonspiel 😂) were able to try their salmon and halibut dishes. Neither felt very special to me so we took the risk!

There are the choices for family style and the plated is the same except you would have to choice your protein before hand. I would also have to have guests sit in specific seats it just seems like a nightmare to go plated. I would rather just assign tables and they sit wherever they wish at their table 😁

It's pan seared chicken over wild rice and beef tenderloin medallions with garlic mashed. We could change one of them for pork stuffed with apple and sage....

Are you personally going for the chicken or the salmon? My vote would be for the salmon.

At least your venue is offering filet mignon as the beef part of a duo. Most places just use a sirloin.

The pictures are not actual food from my venue. They're just plates of each meat. I posted to get some inspiration going for discussion hahaha

Which fish dish did you end up trying at your tasting? We're thinking it'll be arctic char for us.

We're definitely thinking of omitting a chicken dish at our tasting and opting for the fish.

What would your veggie meal be had you had the reception at your venue? We're debating between a curried cauliflower and paneer vs a falafel with spicy tomato sauce (which is silly because we know none of our 25 guests will pick the veggie meal but we figured since it's included in our tasting, might as well try the one that most appeals to us).

Our caterer two options for main are Chicken and Salmon served with the same thing or Vegetarian or course. We only have 1 guest that requested vegetarian. But it was good to have that option.

We also choose one main starter as the salad since my fiancé don’t eat any sort of pasta and not to confused the whole process for starters. And dessert we choose strawberry swirled cheesecake.

Wow the dishes your venue is offering look amazing! The seafood and lamb dishes in particular. If I was invited to a wedding with those items, I'd be thrilled. Definitely pick the more unique offerings.

Our venue actually doesn't allow options - everyone gets the same thing unless they have specific food restrictions. Their reasoning was that it allows them to ensure better quality but lots of other venues can handle it just fine! That being said, they are known for having excellent food and some of the best that people have had at a wedding apparently (according to people I know who attended weddings there). At first I was really miffed and annoyed about this, but now I don't really care.

For our mains, we're going to have two different proteins on the plate - beef (filet mignon) and chicken. I am a big seafood and lamb fan, but a lot of people don't like them so we decided to incorporate seafood as an appetizer instead. They'll have other options for vegetarians, vegans, and people who don't eat beef/chicken at all.

We have chicken and beef (family style hopefully) so everyone can have both. So I like that. Plus we are hopeful we can have our antipasto buffet (totally my favourite part of the entire night, besides getting married)

We LOVE fish so that was a must for us. We wanted our options to feel more special than something you can make at home and (no offence to anyone), I will never choose chicken at a wedding. Don't get me wrong, we eat chicken all the time but it's really just a vessel for whatever you eat it with/marinade it in haha and again, most of us eat it all the time. We chose beef wellington (which I had at the tasting and it was fantastic - even better at the wedding) and tuna steak, which was a risk as I didn't get to try it but wanted it so badly. It was 1000% worth the risk. It was certainly not the popular choice but I knew that'd be the case 🤷🏻‍♀️ everyone who had it raved about it, as well as the beef and veggie option. No regrets! I think weddings are a great time for others to be adventurous too!

I'm a vegetarian so if it was just up to me we would have a fully vegetarian meal haha. But my husband would riot if that happened so we were originally planning to have veggie, beef, and fish options. Since we're in Vancouver we felt like offering fish was a nice option since it's a bit more fitting to the location. We also spoke to some of our friends and family members and most of them actually said given the choice between fish and chicken they would choose fish so that helped make the decision.
