Wedding Socials

Tori, on December 9, 2018 at 04:17 Posted in Before the wedding 0 30

So... I have the tickets! I made them on Vista Print so I consider them somewhat DIY right? There are companies that I could have went to to make my tickets for me but instead I just ordered some business cards and designed them to fit my needs! What do you think? Anybody have social tickets to show off? (For those of you who don't know - Manitoba has Wedding Socials to raise funds for the wedding. Other provinces such as Ontario have a similar version but are still not the exact same called Stag & Does or Jack & Jills - although Jack & Jills are more along the lines of a Wedding Shower.)

Sending all the good vibes your way for your social! We just had ours on NYE and not gonna lie, it was super stressful leading up to it.

So much more work than the wedding and glad to be on the other side of it now! We went and spent the next day at Thermea which was the best plan ever lol!

Oh yeah.... There's a significant population of Indian people in GVA, and their culture around weddings include a week long party, with multiple events that week, most of which are held at halls, are fully catered, open bar, and have professional entertainment. Their equivalent to a 'bridal shower' is 200 of your closest female friends and family at a banquet hall on a Tuesday night.... It's absolutely stunning. I bartended for several banquet halls for a couple years, and it's amazing... but it's EXPENSIVE. It's almost like having 4 to 7 of our weddings, with the main event being 3 times larger than the average wedding... the average cost of an Indian wedding in Vancouver is $100,000... and many go double that or more...

They look great! And people will at least be able to slip them in their wallet, therefore less likely to lose them lol

I live in Alberta and it’s the same mentality here as well. I never even knew any of these things existed until I started planning my own wedding. lol.

Oh my lord! You can't be serious, a second mortgage?!?! You would think that BC and Ontario would be the top two places to do fundraising like this seeing as how everything (that I'm aware of) over there costs more than say Manitoba! Like, I honestly don't think that I would be able to afford a house in BC but here I am at age 21 with a house that I bought when I was 20! Dang Smiley sad

Super cute! Love it. All us BC brides so jealous of these events... haha. It would actually be so frowned upon here... like NO ONE does anything like this. In fact, a large portion of the Greater Vancouver Area are more culturally inclined to take out a second mortgage for a wedding before hosting a Stag & Doe... Smiley xd Smiley cry

Oh wow, ya - our wedding has a 250 max guest count and we have been engaged since December last year so this is a good break in the engagement for us to have a party. Don't stress!!! Or rather, just know that you aren't alone in the stressing department Smiley tongue

They look awesome! We’re in Manitoba too but skipping the social. It just doesn’t make sense for such a small wedding (60 guests max, at home) and also we have about 8 months from engagement to wedding so I thought it may annoy people (can you hear my anxiety about it😬lol) to have a social, shower and wedding within that time frame. I feel like it makes more sense for people with at least a year between. Then again, if we were up $4000 that would basically pay for the wedding lol so maybe we’re actually being silly not doing one.

    They turned out great.

I know around here the majority of money is made on alcohol (if you are having it at a community hall and bring in your own booze). a lot of halls in my city do an all in price with unlimited beer. and then the bar makes money on hard alcohol sold (but cuts down what they charge you for beer). so people make their money on tickets (because they are usually than 25-30 a person), and games

Thanks! Although I ordered them off of Vista print I still had to put some work into them as well, where you had to probably cut them all up, I had to number them from 1-300 and then the support tickets had to have SUPPORT written down and numbered 1-200!

By all means! The only thing I changed on the template on vista print was the font sizing and added the $10 amount in the corner Smiley smile

To be fair I did use a template - but I did have to change the sizing of things to fit all of the words and our names as well as add in the $10 amount? lol but I'll take the compliment nonetheless!!

Thanks! Dang, I mean you could always try and start to make it a thing? Smiley tongue It honestly helps so much knowing that we should walk away from the social being up $4000 or so if not more.

Right? The front of the card is glossy and the back (the map) isn't which worked out perfectly!!

Thanks! I don't know if it's surprising or not but even though we will have our silent auction the place where socials of people I know have made the most money is on the alcohol. I would have thought it was the 50/50 or Texas Mickey but if the price of the liquor tickets is set right then you have people buying an excess of them that they won't have time to drink!

Thanks! And right???? I was not about to pay over a dollar per ticket!

Ya, so far I'm glad I chose certain people to be in our wedding party because they are really stepping it up with telling me how they are going to contribute. So far I have two of my bridesmaids giving a prize each!

Nice idea to create for your event. I had to create event tickets and full page size. Given the full page, i made it into 3 strips equally.

These look great! I love the design.
Vistaprint is pretty amazing for the price. I got all my invites and save the dates for half off! Way cheaper than other print companies!
My FH wanted to have a stag and doe (we are in Ontario) but I told him we were not doing all the planning and his family needed to help in planning and organizing it. Needless to say none of them want to do that. So no stag and doe for us 🤷🏼‍♀️
