Wedding social - advice

Alix, on January 29, 2019 at 16:14 Posted in Before the wedding 0 11
We are going to be hosting a wedding social in June. It will have an 80s theme. Have any of you hosted one or been to one and have any advice for us?

I asked a tattoo shop if they could donate a gift certificate and merchandise or something for our social. They just emailed back saying that they can put something together for us 😊. It's been difficult finding donations and I really wanted this one cause I know lots of people that like tattoos. So it made my day 😁

A support ticket means that the buyer still gives you the $10 but knows that they won't be making the social. They are "supporting" the social as they know it's purpose is to raise money for the couple.

You don't have to - but to encourage people to buy support tickets for our social, we are having a draw for $200 cash! Because of that we are actually getting people that buy both a regular ticket as well as the support ticket so they have a chance at that prize.

We will definitely have a raffle table, although we still have to come up with the prizes ☺.

We did price the tickets at $10 ☺. I'm not too sure what a support ticket is?

    Thanks ☺

My social is actually March 29th so I am deep into this! lol

Here is the website for Manitoba Socials: www.socialsguide.com

So far my advice is to make sure that you don't forget to sell support tickets! I've been to a few socials where they didn't have them and they could have made even more money!

Another thing - more people are increasing the prices of their tickets which causes even more people to opt out of buying them!!! PLEASE for the love of a monkey's uncle keep your ticket price at the $10 mark! People that have tickets for $12 or more will never get my money!!! I always buy two tickets with a $20 and if the total is $24... guess I'm not going!

If you have any specific questions feel free to shoot me a message and I'll try and answer them the best that I can Smiley smile

Love the idea of making it competition! That will be fun! If your not a fan of the games, some people just tend to focus on the silent auction/raffle table. We are doing this shulbuck game, basicly you get so many pucks and have to get in the slots. Whoever has most points end night gets a prize. We have to figure out other ones still

We are actually doing the pie in the face game but with the best man and maid of honor.
My cousin and his girlfriend volunteered to be bartenders. She is actually a bartender and he used to be one. But I like the idea of having 2 people selling drink tickets.
We decided to make it a competition between the bridesmaids and groomsman to see who can sell the most 50/50 tickets haha
I'll have to think of more games. Thank you!

I have been to lots before and normally depending on the rules (Ontario has really made it tough with different licensing) there are games, 50/50 raffles, silent auction/raffles, DJ for music, needs to be someone who has a smart serve to serve the alcohol or sell the alcohol tickets. Depending how venue set up. It is easier to have a table of two people selling the alcohol tickets and then the bartenders only have to do the serving. Definitely have 2 bartenders. The way we are doing our setup is

2 people at door checking id's and taking cash for tickets if they haven't paid

1 person selling silent auction/raffle tickets

1 person selling the 50/50 draw tickets

2 people during busy times selling booze tickets

3 games and people can rotate through standing at them

Don't forget a late night meal as need to have one because serving booze. To raise extra funds sometimes people do pie in the face and wedding party goes around to amp up money going in grooms or bride cup. Whoever has most money gets the pie in face right before shut down

It's going to be a big party.. like a fundraiser for the wedding. It will have door prizes, raffle baskets, 50/50 draw etc. We still have to find some of the prizes but my cousin has already volunteered to be the bartender and one of my bridesmaids and her husband are making the playlist. Everyone can dress up in an 80s costume but don't have to if they don't want to.

Is it kind of like a welcome dinner/engagement party, or more like a stag and doe?

As an 80’s baby I’m soooo for the theme.

Our “wedding social” will be a combination of a welcome dinner and a Guyanese celebration known as a Kwe-kwe. It will have a much more casual vibe than our day of celebration and a way for us to kick off the weekend festivities.
