Wedding Social

Hey, im getting married June 2021, I was planning on having a st. Patrick's socials in March but now I'm very unsure if I should book the hall, dj and collect silent auction prizes. Those of you who have had to cancel have you gotten your deposits back from venue or djs?

What other ways are there to raise money for a wedding?

I’m in a similar position! Set to get married July 2021 and our best man wants to organize a stag & doe near saint Patrick’s day which is great. But I’m nervous about if we’ll be able to, or if we can what the rules will be. In my head, my back up plan if we can’t go through with this is to do an online raffle idea.

Silent auction is a great way to raise money.

Book your vendors and venue while you have the chance to get the date desired. Push back on current couples will have to reschedule too because of covid. You don't want to lose out on your opportunity. Refunds do vary on contracts and time frame towards the wedding date. I did get half the amount when cancelling with the videographer and decorator. Still proceeded with the plans though didn't get as good of a videographer second time searching.

We are getting married in June 2021 as well and have booked our hall for March 6th. The hall we booked is currently reserving under your name but not taking deposits until closer to the date. We have signed the contract etc, just no money exchanging until closer to our month of. We haven't booked any food/DJ's yet, and haven't started collecting prizes as I am kind of nervous to do this because who knows what will happen.

You can try to negotiate a covid clause in your contract so that if you have to postpone due to covid, you won't face any financial penalty.

But if you cancel based on anything not related to government sanctioned closures (ie your guest count is under the maximum allowed gathering limit but you don't feel safe anyway and you decide to cancel rather than postpone), you'll find that getting a refund will be next to impossible.
