We are having a church ceremony...are wedding programs needed? Or is just a “nice to have?”

Programs are nice to have for the following steps part of the wedding and if couples decide to include wedding party names.

Cultural weddings may have different steps that many may not understand and its meaning. For that reason its good to let them know and read for their knowledge.

THey definitely go in the "nice to have" column for us. It is nice for the guests to get to know you and the wedding party and in the heat of the summer it can double as a nice fan. I definitely do not think they are necessary though, we will be skipping it.

While wedding programs are considered just a "nice to have", they also give the chance for guests at your wedding to know about any special rituals in your wedding as well as the names of those in your wedding party.

If you don't want to have a bunch of programs printed, consider doing one large program instead that you can put on an easel. You can have one made up with VistaPrint for about $20 on foam core material - doesn't break the bank at all!

Just nice to have! I'm doing it as I can get them super cheap at work so it works out for us!

I like them as it will have the address of the reception on them to remind people where to go and at what time! I always find I forget the wedding invite at home when I go to weddings and I have to ask people where to next! hahah!

Definitely just "nice to have"... unless you're having some big Greek-Orthodox or Roman-Catholic wedding where people (especially your non-religious friends) may actually get lost, or you're having multiple readings/prayers, maybe even a hymn or two...

Unless there's information your guests need to follow, it's not a necessity.

    They are definitely a nice to have! We aren't doing them for a few reasons;

    1. Most people will leave them behind

    2. We aren't having a church wedding and the ceremony is only 15 minutes long

    3. People might get distracted by them

We will be having a sign out front so people can take a look at it. It's made by Etsy shop Paint the Day Designs and they are Canadian! The silhouettes are too cute and you can customize the colours!

If your church wedding is longer and/or there is a lot of guests that don't go to your church, I would do a sign like this!

Personally I did not want to have them. My fiancé does. So we will see. If we do have them we will be having a wooden stick go through them so they can be used as a fan. Summertime in August in the mountains can be very hot. At least then it serves dual purpose.

They are nice. not necessarily to have. but they are nice. hahaha. but so not even needed.

we aren't doing them at all. I figure its a 15-18 minute ceremony. whats the point. and our wedding party will get introduced at our reception.

my friend is a graphic designer and does wedding stationary jobs on the side. so when she got married she wanted them. but she doesn't even think they are necessary.

I won't be having any at our wedding! My uncle recently got married and I thought it was nice to have the program but they are also kind of distracting with people reading them and whispering and the kids having them too.. in my personal opinion. and also a lot of people just left them, or they were thrown out! so its cute to have them all done up but definitely not necessary

I wouldn't even consider them to be nice to have! Unless it's a hot day in March and the ceremony takes place outside - they don't need a paper fan.

I think I will just be going with a big sign that people can read and if need be they can take a picture if they really need to see when everything is going to happen. (Besides, it's not like they would be able to change anything that is going to be happening throughout the day right?)

Wedding programs aren't a necessity, but they're nice so that guests can know what to expect the day-of.

Definitely just a nice to have! Sometimes for church weddings they’re a little nicer because they break down what’s happening for the non-churchgoers in attendance but even then they’re just a nice extra!
