Wedding Photoshoot instead of a wedding?

Tetiana, on January 19, 2021 at 19:54 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 4
Hi ladies,

My husband and I were planning to have a destination wedding in Cuba in July 2020, but we were going to do a secret legal ceremony in Canada shortly before.

We couldn't wait to get married, so we just went to the city hall with our parents and got married on January 31st 2020! It was a super rushed decision to do it half a year before our destination wedding, so I didn't have an outfit that I loved, and we didn't have a photographer or anything... It was supposed to be a secret "paper signing" before the real deal in Cuba.
Needless to say, Cuba got cancelled because of Covid. We have rescheduled the wedding several times, but it never worked out with constantly changing restrictions.
We were going to do a ceremony with our parents and a couple close friends again, with a real photographer and the white dress on January 31st, 1 year exactly after our legal ceremony. But with the new lockdown, it isn't working again.
We don't have any nice photos from the legal ceremony, and I have a beautiful dress that I never got to wear...
At this time, we aren't going to reschedule anymore (done it 5 times already!), but just have a photoshoot for the two of us in our wedding attire and then stay overnight in a bridal suite in a very fancy hotel.
But I keep thinking that just dressing up in a wedding dress to take pictures 1 year after getting married is kind of weird...
I never wanted a big wedding to begin with, so I would have been happy with a simple elopement. My biggest regret is not making our legal ceremony nicer in the first place.
What's your take on it?

Your photos are always going to be memories of your day though you can still have a proper wedding shoot you want a year later to show yourself in the dress you wanted to wear at city hall. Don't give up on the idea as this makes you happy to proceed and make the best of what you have and can have on your anniversary.

This sounds like a fun idea! Most of our wedding photos are just the two of us, we have a few of his siblings and my parents and our wedding party but the majority was just us. We're planning the wedding again for our anniversary and I totally understand how you feel a little weird about doing the dress and the photos after you're already married.

If you think a photo shoot in your wedding dress is weird 1 year later, imagine how you'll feel if you put this off for another year. Do it now!

I think anything goes when it comes to Covid and weddings! I honestly don’t think anything is “weird” now. I’m sorry you didn’t get your original wedding the way you planned, and I think dressing up for a photo shoot and having a fancy night together is a great idea! Especially if you already have the dress, might as well get to wear it and get beautiful photos to commemorate your love and promise to each other 🙂
