Wedding funding.

Erin, on September 17, 2020 at 14:49 Posted in Ontario 0 12
Although a good majority of our wedding will be DOY there is still quite a bit of it will still cost an arm and a leg. My question is simple how much did your wedding cost and how did you get the funds for it?

Hey Erin, we had incepted a wedding budget of approx. $30K before looking into venues, or anything. At the present time we've wellllllll surpassed that budget, and we've been just paying for things as we go. Luckily we only had to put down $5k for our venue and given small amounts to vendors and luckily most are not due until 6 months roughly before, half the balance for the venue is due in Feb 2021. Which is also great considering COVID.. we will have a better idea of the situation by then hopefully.. Then the remainder is due day of or day before or day after I can't recall, it's been a little since talking about payments. We also have a generous amount of money coming from both of our parents and we will probably be paying ourselves about $15-20K each. As for how we are paying for it, we are just saving money like crazy + we've been together for 9 years now (we started dating young) and we've know we would be getting married since 3-4 years in so we just have saved over the years.

You are getting married in 2022 I believe I saw? Try cutting out things wherever possible! I love the idea of DIY I too have done some things for the wedding like invitations and some decor, the best thing to do is find wholesalers. For example I found a paper wholesaler (I haven't been yet) but instead of going to a regular store like Michaels for example, go directly to the wholesaler. You won't have to pay the markup. And try to do that for as many things as possible, just google around you will make it work! I know people who wanted tree stump centrepieces and just asked a friend who has a ton of property and explained what they were looking for and they offered to just cut up some of the trees that had fell in their forest on their property for example! Ask around & find out if friends of friends or family etc have discounts as well! You will make it work trust me Smiley smile Smiley heart

Thanks Kelsie. Yeah I can't believe you have to pay for lighting that's nuts!!!! Unfortunately we did become financially messed up when Covid hit as neither my FH or myself could work. So we are trying to figure out how to get back on track.

Our wedding is probably on the higher end. FH and I basically have paid for things as we have gone. Since Covid we haven’t made any extra payments - we don’t want vendors running away with our money.

We’re lucky in that we haven’t been affected financially by Covid. My family is also helping us a little bit as well which helps.
My tip is to get some savings before spending - especially for things you don’t think of (lighting for us - a ridiculous cost we never thought we would have to pay for).
    Best of luck in planning!

Most of our wedding items are DIY which is helping us save a ton of money on decoration and such, purchase wise all we have purchases so far are the engagement announcements, guest book and pen and a few items for DIY stuff.

Yes I plan on taking my time and enjoying each step as I go. Purchase wise my wedding shouldn't cost too much as it's mostly DIY

Good luck with your wedding planning. You still have some time so I wouldn't rush to make any purchasing decisions, especially considering the pandemic.

Hi Hank, thank you so much for your input and that's amazing that you decided to go that route. You are very right sometimes if family chip in they get the brilliant idea that they get some form of rights to make decisions that have nothing to do with them. Thank you so so much for leaving me a comment. ❤

Hey Erin, we're choosing to pay for our own wedding. We didn't want help because if we got family to help pay for it, they'll feel entitled to dictate how the day will run. We budgeted based on what we can part with comfortably and not to exceed that.

Our wedding costs are evolving because we originally planned for 250 but with covid, we may be down to 50. Also, both of us were impacted financially due to the economy shutting down so we had to change things as a result. The provincial restrictions will also eliminate the need for certain costs like DJ since there's no dancing, there's no point in hiring one.
