Hey everyone! So for our wedding were doing a country style and were have a bbq style dinner like pulled pork, homemade baked beans, coleslaw, greens and corn I really don't wanna dish out anymore money lol just for someone to do dishes. Would it be tacky for plastic utensils and plates?

I don't think it's tacky. People will be happy that there is food!

I would try to use compostable cutlery and plates if possible, they aren't a lot more expensive than plastic and are usually still cheaper than renting. You can get really cute bamboo and wooden cutlery that to me matches country really well. And paper plates don't need to be ugly anymore either!

Not at all we are doing something very similar - either burgers and pulled pork or burgers and some other second main dish plus all the sides we can come up with like salad, baked potatoes, and chili.

I didn't want family to have to do dishes either, and we don't have it in our budget to hire kitchen staff.

This is what I ended up ordering:
    ALINK 150PCS Biodegradable Rose... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07JZZ743N?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

ALINK 50 Rose Gold Dots Luncheon... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07JMH6P2M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

If you're able to find a party rental place, many of them do rent dishes and cutlery at a reasonable price and then you just load them up dirty and they'll pick them back up again and take care of them.
Either way, I don't think it's tacky. There's lots of disposable/compostable versions of plates and cutlery that would create less waste than plastic.

That does sound crazy for dishes! In that case, I would find some really nice disposable (maybe there is something eco-friendly) dishware.

Its super casual but country style like blue jeans and shirt for the guys and the girls are in simple country style dresses and boots lol. The place were having the dinner does have glass etc but its in a small town and super hatd to find anyone to do the dishes even lol and were doing our own food also. I did have one person offer but i thought $800 just to wash dishes was a tad bit ridiculous

It will definitely cost more, but online you can find recyclable dishes and utensils.

This is tough - we're currently working on finding affordable rentals so I totally understand your thoughts on cost. However, the amount of waste that all that plastic creates is hard to think about, and depending on the vibe you're going for, may take away from your reception. In the end, no one will really care what they ate off of, so you just have to do what makes the most sense for you.

Is it a large wedding? You can find affordable china and if you don't have a huge amount of people, it wouldn't be a huge cost.
